You use the jab because you can win a whole fight just throwing that punch.
The jab is generally a safer punch to throw than the others. You can vary the jab it to test your opponents reaction to setting up the other more powerful combinations.

IMO AJ really had a good gameplan, solid jab, But Usyk was on another level. He got under shots, lateral movement to evade shots shades of Frazier’s bobb & weave, whatever he did? A Jab accompanied it.
