Who's our next boxing superstar?

I’m not talking about prospects coming through, I mean the established guys like Barnes, Jennings, Haye…even Witter etc.

Who has the style, fan appeal and promotional muscle to make that leap from domestic somebody to boxing superstardom?

I’m still u uncertain about a lot of guys out there at the moment…

Out of all the top british prospects, I would have to lean towards Mr Haye as our most promising and up and coming superstar.

He has the look (used to be a model!! Ponce!), has the talk, and most importantly has that big K.O punch which every fight fan wants to see.

I’m a big fan of David, and I just hope he can keep his head in the game (mentally), and continue working on his stamina.

Moving up to heavyweight could also work to his advantage of becoming a big star, as every average fight fan loves the heavies, and associates them (for some reason!) as the creme de la creme of boxing.

Also, a pick for the future is little Lee Haskins from Bristol… He has a record of 14-0 with 9 K.O’s, and has a really confident and mature look to him, even though he’s only 22.

Agree with ya there about Haye mate, saves me a bit of typing.

Haskins,as good as he looks might not be everyones cup of tea, the way he conducts himself with his arrogance and showboating etc… I don’t mind it personally if he can back it up, which up to now he has, some don’t like it though.

I would have to go with Mr Haye as well. One thing I saw on Friday night that I hadn’t seen with him before - The York Hall was packed and they were turning people away from 9pm apparently. He clearly has box-office appeal and the tell-tale sign of Gordon Ramsay and a few other celebs ringside are another sure sign that the Hayemaker appeals to more than just the purists. He also has that maverick streak and that ability to throw caution to the wind that puts bums on seats.

I think with Haskins it’s more confidence than anything else, i don’t think he’s had a bad word to say about anyone before his fights and he’s all business in the ring, when the fight’s over he shows respect to his opponent and is quite honest.

It’s good to have a British character like him who isn’t shoving religion down anybody’s throat, i hope he goes on to be very successful, he is mature and very entertaining…i don’t think he’s necessarily arrogant…

I agree with everyone else, Haye is the next best thing, i’m still looking for a good response from Jennings after his loss though, people were talking about matching him with Margarito! I want Jennings to come back strong and then make a step up to world class to see how he handles it…

So a shrewd move by Maloney then siging up Haye.

What about Witter?

He’s still aligned with Golden Boy and is set for a crack at the most prestigous of the belts. You and I know that he can’t really lay any claim to any linearity with it but the armchair fan won’t know…or care.

Carl Froch

Very shrewd and he seems to have done a good job promoting him in return.

As for Witter, he’s too dislikeable as a person and inconsistent in the ring to be big box office. He also has the type of face you want to slap. ;D

Cant fookin stand him, and is already on the decline if his last few fights are anything to go by!!

You will all see soon enough that Witter is the real deal, Light Welter will become his, even when Castillo moves up.

Are you telling me Ricky doesn’t know this and that this hasn’t played a part in his decision to move up.

;D

Yeah, I guess Witters charisma bypass lets him down.

I wouldn’t let him anywhere near a TV camera if I was promoting him.

Froch on the other hand talks a great game, but does he have the right backing to get him to the top?

For me it’s Froch.

I used to get excited by Haye until his performance on Fri night which showed he still has trouble when his own power doesn’t put down opponents and takes a few in return afterward. It’s like he gets confused by the whole thing when his own don’t work.

I don’t think he’s going to last long. Exciting power but that’s it.

But whatever I may think about him, he’s better than A-Farce. ;D

But back to Froch, he’s a legitimate talent. He has great boxing skills, puts them together, has a decent chin and power.

He still needs to move up slowly but he will get there in the end.

It seems a bit inconsistent to bag on Haye and then talk as if the sun shines out of Froch’s arse. Did you see his last fight?

Edit: Make that his last two fights.

David Haye.

Not Been mentioned but how’s about Alex Arthur?

He’s young, hungry, technically excellent IMO and brings some power aswell.

It is a cliche now, but he is a great example of learning from defeat and coming back even stronger.

Shame he is in one of the toughest divisions worldwide.
Having cleared up domestically i’m curious whether he has the ability to compete with the Barerra’s and Pacman’s of this world..

My choice = Alex Arthur

Good shout, mate. Arthur took a fair amount of stick follwoing his Gomez loss, but I’ve gotta say out of the boxers I’ve met he was one of the soundest.

Will being under Franks banner help or hinder him though?

Alex Arthur (and potentially Matt Macklin) are the only other British boxers I would leave the country for.

I’ve taken plenty of stick for supporting Alex Arthur and claiming he’s the real deal after the Gomez fight.

I didn’t even post cause I knew it would be shouted down.

Fair play mate, yes, I believe he has what it takes and can only get better.

Goood shout Danman, I like Arthur as well. He was built up a lot when he first turned pro, and inevitabily it went to his head. Gomez actually did him a big favour. Since his loss he seems to have re-evaluated his attitude and seems all the better for it.

As for Haye, I would like to see him in with Maccarinelli, they are quite similar and I don’t think it would be a walkover for Haye. Could be a case of first to land a clean shot wins!!

Saying that though, I think Haye is better equipped to move upto World Class level.

Froch - I don’t know why, but I just cannot seem to get too excited about him :dontknow:

I am also a fan of Nicky Cook, he is in a tough division but he seems well schooled and is pretty good in all departments. He is my tip to be one of Britain’s best in the next few years.

There is also Kevin Mitchell, he may be one of these fighters who needs to beaten fairly early on ala Arthur.

I know he is not established yet, but even so I think Amir Kahn deserves a mention also.
