what made marciano great was his blood and guts approach his never say die mentality. there are many fighters who were more talented than him but not as great as him.
The 3guys with the biggest gifts to my knowlegde at least, had a bit of sugar about them, That would be SRR, SRL and PBF, PBF only counts because in england sugar is often said instead of shit, buteven with floyds gifts I still think anyone with some big ass kahunas, stamina, power and heart will beat him, like Castillo I only a heck of a lot more conclusively.
Roy Jones Jr. IS the most talented fighter to ever step into the ring. He is also P4P the greatest in my opinion. For over a decade he was untouchable. And for all you haters who wanna bring up his loss to Tarver and such, wrap your minds around this: while both Roy and Tarver are the same age, by 1996 Tarver was fightin in the Olympics and Roy was already a world champion and recognized P4P best fighter in the world.
Agreed - what made Marciano an all time great was the fact that actually he did not have a lot of natural talent (apart from a huge punch). He was small, he had short arms, he was uncoordiinated, he put fat on too easily, he had a bad back, he got cut up.
Marciano succeeded through strength of character, not skimming by on natural talent!!
Over a hundred amateur fights undefeated. Over a hundred straight wins before his first pro defeat. Then a winning streak of some 60 fights after that. Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the world, 5 times undisputed Middleweight Champ of the world, narrowly misses out on the light-heavy title.
Speed, fluency, power, chin, bravery, charisma. The guy had everything, plus the discipline and heart to make the most of his talent and not waste it !!
A 30 year career. Rock hard competition.
And by the way, there is only one Sugar Ray - and it’s not Seales or Leonard.
I LOVE Marciano..but I have to agree with you…sure he was a good fighter…but is was his unequalled heart, strength and determination that won him fights…Archie Moore was better at boxing than Marciano, So was Ezzard Charles…but both got KTFO because The Rock never stopped coming at them…
I understand everyones point. What I was thinking with Rocky was that despite not having a refinded boxing ability he was still able to do what he did. He was possibly the most natural fighter, because of the fact that his boxing ability was not the greatest. That was the view I was thinking of when I typed him down.
in that case I would be inclined to join you in agreement…
