I figured this out. Watch Usyk’s footwork, when he wants to throw the right jab, he always steps wider to his right. His foot is always on the outside of his opponent’s left foot. But when he wants to throw the left hand, looping or straight, he always stands put and delivers the shot… Or, very little right foot movement to the outside of your left foot. Watch it closely. If you want a chance to box Usyk comfortably, you have to watch his right foot stepping far outside your lead left foot for the right jab…
Usyk makes opponents work when they don’t want to as he constantly makes them move and think.
He’s smaller than his opponents and has to use his vastly superior skills to overcome them.
Usyk is truly a modern day great beating the best heavyweights today.
Just as I said, notice Veerhoven’s approach to Uysk. He kept his left foot on the outside of Usyk’s lead right foot. It disrupt’s Usyk’s movement, rhythm and ability to set up punches. That is why Veerhoven was so successful for so long… Usyk could not settle into his fight at any time. I’m telling you, keep your left foot on the outside of Usyk’s lead right foot and you can have a chance to box with him a bit better- it would allow you the ability to stay on the outside of his straight left and keeps him off balance to throw any right hook or straight left while keeping him contained.
Even when Veerhoven threw a jab or a left hook he kept a wide stance and never closed the gap… He kept on the outside of Usyk’s right foot.
Good job by Veerhoven. We have a blueprint on Usyk that a trainer worth his salt can work with.
