Alright so as I understand, vivian harris is number 5 on ricky’s hitlist. After seeing vivian TKO stevie johnston on HBO, do you think that vivian could beat hitman. Vivian has a longer reached, but then again ricky always gets up close and is more offensive. I don’t know, i think it would be fun to watch them slug it out.
I haven’t seen the Johnston fight but i’m told from some US friends that Stevie didn’t do too bad considering he’s was a past his best lightweight who took the fight at short notice.
If it were to happen, i think Rick stops him around half way.
I’ve heard Harris is due to fight an IBF final emiminator, so if Rick were also to beat Urango as expected, he could become his mandatory.
Which makes it even more laughable they’ve accepted Urango, who got a gift last time out against Rabah, who was in turn rejected by HBO last year which led to Rick being forced to relinquish the belt everyone is now happy for him to be fighting for again.
So lets say Harris wins his IBF eliminator - if HBO say no again, that means Rick must vacate once more.
If Ricky stays at 140lbs an Viv keeps winning a fight looks likely as still Harris is one of the best out of what seems to be a poor pool of fighters at 140lbs.
I believe he was named after the great cricketer Viv Richards.
True, but the same could be said of Urango. Harris has some pedigree and if he can win against another name then i wouldn’t be against it - especially if it’s a mandatory.
It depends on where Rick has gone. If he beats Urango, KOs Castillo then he should be on for another jump skywards to 147 for a fight against Cotto or Mayweather and Vivian will be well off the radar. I’d rather see a fight with Junior “up the” Witter.
Why the hell does it seem that Rick is the only champion that gets no latitude whatsoever when it comes to his manditories? I don’t see other fighters being held hostage nearly as mush as the Hitman does when it comes to defending against the proped up “#1” contenders. Tszyu didn’t fight for 2 years and the IBF still let him keep his belt - they stripped Rick in less than a year!!
I can see it now - Rick takes down Urango and then is told he has to fight harris within 90 days or else. I know that there’s an option to offer up “step aside” money, but what if a fighter doesn’t take it? By then maybe Rabah would have worked his way back up the rankings as well and the next 3 fights could be Urango, Harris then Rabah. That sounds like a ton of fun and at teh current activity level it’ll take us up through the fall of 2008. (I know I’m exagerating, but the way things have gone latley it’s not by much)
