The first time ever you sparred.. how was it?

For those who train at boxing gyms, what was it like the first time you ever sparred? How did it go? (Did you do good, did you get beaten on a little bit, etc.)

Well.. it wasn’t 100% boxing but all I can remember is getting jabbed at will and having a sore nose for a few days… and maybe landing 1-2 shots of my own…

MAYBE

I absolutely DOMINATED my wife.

lol

My first round was against a girl who had been boxing a long time. I didn’t want to hit her… and well she had no problems hitting me. When I did try to put a few on her she was no where to be found… very slick.

Then a guy my size and level stepped in the ring with me, I loosened up and messed up his nose with a straight right within 30 seconds and he couldn’t see anymore. That was a good motivator after being picked apart by a girl that was smaller than me.

i got beat up by a boy 2 years younger than me, i was too afraid to hit back because if i hit him he would want to hit me back harder.

i remember the third time i came down to the boxing gym i go to i was put in the ring with someone who was a bit better than me but not much. I really didnt know what to do so i just charged into him my hands going wild and managed to land a lucky shot on him which knocked him down… But then i learnt the hard way that that doesnt work lol

Ya know, that’s always been my main problem in sparring for me, too. I’m to scared to fight back because I’m afraid of pissing them off and them really beating the shit out of me. :frowning:

:coolclick:

O0

Just had the first 2 rounds of sparring yesterday… whoa was a rush but yeah the guy took it easy bc there were many times he coulda wailed on me. Got a good beating though and prolly only landed about 10-15 good punches but cant wait to get back in!

They put me in the ring with a guy that had won the GG like 3 times!!! they told him to take it easy one me…he was hitting me with everything but the kitchen sink when I cracked him with an overhand right.(or a wing and a prayer) and it stunned him… I remember the gym got real quiet and then dude blasted me…I didn’t go down but someone set off some fireworks in my head and the session was done…The coaches said he had never been stunned like that before…it was really motivating!!! but my face hurt for like 3 days…

I was a dickhead and forgot my gum sheild, so i chipped a tooth, nightmare

when you guys spar do you go hard or light?

the first time i sparred we gave everything we had …But i was 10 lol :boxing:

I was scared shitless…

Kind of like a Crackhead fighting for the last rock in the bag!!!

Overall, I settled into sparring and became addicted to it, I like it better at times than competition…

Sparring is the main thing needed for training as a fighter…If there is one thing you cant do without, its sparring!!!

Thats why u always hit back harder ;D

Who’s we?

thats something to be proud of :stuck_out_tongue: Lol..
the first time i sparred i won,i done a haymaker and knocked buddy out! Lol it was some site O0 first time i sparred i was 220lbs so ya i got bet out a lot too.

that was so accurate…I am in a very rich area outside St. Louis and the kids here have had every thing handed to them on a silver spoon…the bad boys here would friggin cry in the hood…so after spending like 2-3 weeks teaching them how to fight I had them spar each other…It was 2 crackheads fighting for the last rock…LOL!!! They were just flailing and finally someone landed a good shot…about a minute into the round…It was exciting and scary at the same time because all I could think about were lawsuits…then the YMCA in Chesterfield, MO kicked us out…after they said we could train there…richy rich b*tches

Garu,

Where are you around St. Louis??

Do you work with a Boxing Gym in that area??

I have a Boxing gym in SE. MO., as a matter of fact, we are the only “Active” Team in SE. MO.

Should take them boys to The WOHL Center…They train boxing there…Its also probably the most dangerous place to go in St. Louis and then getting scared would be the one experience they could get!! Haha, JK, I wouldnt do that…

Ok, if you are close to Chesterfield and you have guys that would like to train in Boxing, get a hold of Jimmie Howell there in St. Charles. He runs North County Boxing and he is a very good trainer. He trains amateur and pro fighters in his gym.

If you want to start your own Gym, you would need to get a hold of the officials there in St. Louis with the Ozark LBC.

We can always use more Gyms and the more Kids we can get involved in the sport, the better!!

Good Luck,

Coach
