This is a huge fight and so early in the year. I have watched loads of promotional videos and this is grabbing my attention. Two elite boxers at their peak facing one another and I have no idea who will win.
Shakur is a beautiful boxer and Teo does have to manhandle him to win which he is experienced enough to do.
This is on Saturday, January 31st, 2026, at Madison Square Garden, New York when there are 2 other big fights scheduled with Azim and Josh Kelly.
The fight is scheduled for 12 rounds in the Super Lightweight division, which means the weight limit will be 140 pounds. This contest is for the WBO super lightweight championship of the world. Lopez will be making his 3rd defense of the The Ring Junior Welterweight Championship. He won this belt against Josh Taylor in June 2023.
Also on the undercard will be Keyshawn Davis’ and Jamaine Ortiz’s fight, Carlos Adames’ and Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams’ fight for the WBC World Middleweight belt, Bruce Carrington’s and Carlos Castro’s contest for the WBC World Featherweight title, and Jarrell Miller’s and Kingsley Ibeh’s bout.
I have been watching the promotional videos in camp and Teo is actually a likeable guy. Both are friendly to one another and have grown up in the game.
I may stay up for this contest in the early hours of Sunday morning.
I hope so, I prefer the aggressor being rewarded than a runner who doesn’t engage enough. Especially when they hold like Devin Haney which I find very difficult to watch.
if it’s effective aggression i agree, if it’s just coming forward, following your opponent around & not being able to cut off the ring then it’s redundant. like raymond muratalla effective aggression v andy, he was pressuring him, got giving him the distance he wanted & landing hard shots
the problem is that pressing the issue is not natural for teo, he has done it before but he struggled with both sandor & jamaine, i think he would be better to try & draw shakurs lead & counter to the head & body
May end up missing this unfortunately but I keep getting it stuck in my mind…I would not be completely shocked to see Shakur not only beat Teo but, to lump him up to the point on possible late tko :-X. I can’t see Shakur turning constant track meet because I just don’t think Teo has the full throttle pressure game right now. Shakur isn’t going to just fall back on his own. Maybe I’m putting way too much into a mental aspect, but I have zero idea where Teo is mentally. And Shakur has been working on his upper body, inside work. Kid knows how to chicken wing now and shoulder dump ;D. The subtle things last couple of fights. Nothing huge but his adaptation has been going up, Teo honestly has been going thru the motions and it’s clear to everyone his pop hasn’t carried up. Let alone letting his hands go for it to matter at the highest stakes. It will be a very interesting quality fight regardless, best man wins and full credit.
carlos adames is out after falling ill (rumours are he was struggling to make weight), wendy toussaint has stepped in as a replacement to face austin ‘ammo’ williams
