Taylor vs Spinks *Spoiler*

After a close first round i felt that Spinks nicked the fist just

I’d say the same again Taylor is on the back foot all the time Round to Spinks just again

Compared to pavlik v Miranda this is an absolute snoozer.

I’m liking Pavlik’s chances more and more as I see Taylor tonight and recall his last 3 fights as well.

Tell me about it i think i’m going to fall asleep for the second time today ( i heard there was a cup final today aswell)

That fight was garbage.

No one deserved to win.

Taylor 101 of 319. (a whopping 8.4 of 26.6 per round)

Spinks 85 for 542. (7 out of 45)

Should have been a loss for both.

Cory my hometown boy. God he sucks so bad I love the HBO commentators Jim Lampley is god. I thought Larry was going to take off when the 8th round started. So Larry said they should make a mandatory 16ft ring and score for the person who “makes the fight”.

That Taylor - Spinks fight was the most boring World Title fight I have seen since Witter - Judah and Taylor must be a relieved man tonight. Spinks in my opinion won by 2 rounds and he must feel aggreived that Taylor won by such wide margins on the other 2 scorecards. Taylor should forget about $10 million paydays now because on that performance he isn’t worth 10 bob to pay and watch. I think he needs some time out and asess were he goes next because at 160 I fancy Abraham and Pavlik to beat him and at 168 Calzaghe must be secretly laughing at all the hype that is Jermain Taylor.
Jeff Lacy was being touted as the next big thing and at least he had power and KO ability but JT simply looks like he had too much too soon and lacks experience and know how on to overcome differcult southpaws. Calzaghe KO’s Taylor within 8 and I think SN will not even bother in offering Taylor a fight for the money he as quoted. He said to Larry Merchant he will fight whoever offers him the biggest payday so everything seems to look at Calzaghe in Cardiff in Sept onwords, but I think it will struggle to sell that fight on that performance and the people at Sky won’t be impressed at all.

I don’t see no reason why Sky should of been impressed anyway. All his fights are fairly boring.

They should of used the money to get Cotto/Judah!

Onto Calzaghe then

from what i read on ESPN Spinks ran most of the fight and as usual one dumbass judge had the scoring just the opposite of the other 2(dam it wasn’t Melvina Lathan was it?) :lol2:

I think Calzaghe would demolish Taylor, Calzaghe has great speed, good stamina and good work rate which will give Taylor big problems.Another Calzaghe and Lacy for me.

I scored the fight to Spinks by two rounds, but i knew he wouldnt get the decision. My advice to Taylor would be to stay away from Joe Calzaghe, cos judging by his last few fights, Calzaghe stops him IMO.

pavlik v calzaghe? what you reckon guys that would be a goodin, taylors just a bore seems to have a stamina prob, would’nt last 4 rounds with joe,as for spinks paula radcliffe would’nt of kept up with him.

Jermain Taylor put in a really average performance and after watching the fight twice I still have the fight by 2 rounds to Spinks. It was a disappointing fight and how Taylor thought he had won by a wide margin is beyond me. If he goes to 168 Calzaghe will hand him a 12 round beating and I can’t see what Taylor can bring into the fight that changes my mind. He as not had enough experience as a pro to overcome differcult opponents and the likes of B- Hop and Wright were slow, not hard hitting and defensive similar to JT himself. Calzaghe is quick, powerfull and as all the tricks in the book to beat him by a stoppage or points win.
Spinks although tried is a powder puncher and can’t sustain enough pressure to win big fights when it matters. He as wins over Judah and Mayorga but if you look at his pedigree he should be a real star in the making. As a ametuer he had a 78 -3 record which is very impressive but as a pro even though he is a 2 weight world champion he is not a dangerous opponent at all.
The likes of Margarito, Baldomir, Forrest and Cotto could all go to 154 and beat Spinks if he goes back down in weight and I think he is still the IBF Light Middleweight champion.

You can’t blame Spinks for adopting the tactics he did. But Taylor’s performance was a disgrace. He showed Spinks far too much respect , when he should have been out there to make a point. He’s clearly just in it for the money and doesn’t particularly care about entertaining the fans or taking risks. His purse demands are way out.

I hope this puts an end to Calzaghe’s plans to fight him and that he now goes after Kessler.

It says something when Johnny Nelson can accuse another fighter of not pressing the fight. ;D

I’ll say what I’ve thought about Taylor ever since I saw him beat Hopkins for the first time: The man sucks as a boxer and has to be one of the worst champs in recent memory.

I actually predicted we were going to watch a bore last night and that is what we got. In his last 4 fights, he’s had 3 controversial decisions and should have knocked out Ouma with ease.

To be blunt, the guy’s crap and Pavlik would knock his arse out.

Oh, and people really should stop paying for tickets to see this guy. His heart isn’t really into the sport so why should the public pay for him?

This is why I’ve said all along that a fight between Calzaghe and Taylor would never be that interesting. Apart from the obvious reasons ie weight difference, Taylor would do nothing for Joe’s legacy because Taylor is nothing himself.

Taylor lost a of respect last night, and Calzaghe Taylor lost most of its steam. Taylor Pavlik, and Calzaghe Kessler/Calzaghe winner of Hopkins Wright are the biggest middleweight and super middweight fights.

Larry Merchant made the boring fight entertaining. He let it all hang out with is biting wit. I’ll miss his commentary when he’s gone.

I think Taylor knows better than to take a fight with Calzaghe for any amount of money. If he doesn’t then surely Emmanuel Stewart will. Taylor can’t get his jab off, struggles with opponents who box and posess hand speed. On top of that he has no plan whatsoever for solving southpaws.

Calzaghe would completely embarass him - worse than he did to Lacy because it’s very likely that Taylor would just completely stop throwing punches all-together and fall into a seizure.

I gave Pavlik slightly better than a punchers chance after he destroyed Miranda but after watching Spinks beat Taylor last night (regardless of the score) I think Pavlik knocks taylor out.

I only caught the last two rounds but if they were anything to go by and the other 10 were the same it would have been a right borefest. What is it with Taylor, hardly the most exciting fighter is he ::slight_smile:
