Super heavyweight?

All,

I would not want this change and i believe the heavyweight divison should stay the same anything over 200 lbs>, but do you think the great variation in weight in the divison may be considered unfair? Haye would never beat vlad because vlad is a better boxer so i am not defending haye..but what if all heavyweights had to fight at same weight?
I know that it would be very difficult with different heights, body masses and etc, but its just a thought..what would have happened in historic fights? But then again, less weight more speed.

Your thoughts?

super heavyweight (225lbs+) no…

junior heavyweight (200-225lbs) yes.

We don’t have enought talent for a single decent heavyweight division and so the idea of splitting it in two seems crazy to me.

There have ALWAYS been giants in the heavyweight division.

Bill Tate was 6’6 and 230ish in Dempsey’s era
Fred Fulton was 6’5, 220 around WWI
Carl Morris was 6’4 230
Jess Willard was another 6’5, 240 guy.
The above all fought when most heavies were 200 or under.

Primo Carnera was what 6’5 240?
Buddy Baer was 6’6 240
Abe Simon was 6’4 250 with an 82 inch reach
Joe Louis drilled each of the above

Evander gave up 3 inches in height and 20+ pounds against both Holyfield and Bowe and he competed well with both. Chris Chambers dominated Dimitrenko.

It really isn’t the size alone. It is being good! Or in the case of the rest of today’s heavies, being bad!

On a related note ESPN classic showed a fascinating fight last night. ATG feather Sandy Saddler, 5’10, reach like a gorilla, took on 5’2 inch, alligator armed Charley Riley. Riley kept boring in and taking the fight to Saddler. It ended up a majority decision for Saddler, but a competitive fight all the way.

Real shame. Vlad could have been a great if he werent so boring!..haye needs to go america, change trainer and grow some balls.

Being borring or exciting has no bearing on great. You’ll find fighters who were borring and great, as well as plenty exciting greats.

To me the last thing we need is another weight division handing out four pointless trinkets. We need quality over quanity. Not all are a Vitali and we get more than a few Tye Fields and Jameel McClines.

It does in this case. He is too boring. Im not talking about others.

I’ve always been for re establishing the top 3 weight classes in some way… Even if it meant introducing a 4th in order to bridge the gap from light heavy to heavy.

Infact i’m sure i’ve made at least two threads on it since joining!

i’m pretty sure you meant Lewis there lol, and lets not forget how he was ripped off against Valuev

Cruiserweight 175-195 (there’s too much of a gap b/w 175 and 200)
Heavyweight 195-225
Super Heavyweight 225-270
Titanweight 270+

I think that’s fair, and more appropriate to the diversity of heavyweights out there from all over the globe.

Alot of the oft criticized overweight heavyweights would have to get fit to make the 225 limit, as they wouldn’t want to be sticking around in Klitschko territory.

Presumably there would be no minimum weight requirements for super heavyweight or titanweight championship fights, so the smaller guys could take on the challenge if they are good enough.

I do not want to see another weight division, the cruiserweight went up a bit in their limit but changing the heavyweight division will kill the boxing game totally. I sincerely believe a Mike Tyson will beat these super heavies as would Ali and Foreman, so if you are good enough you are big enough.
