Saudis withdrawing funding from sports

So in the past week they’ve withdrawn from snooker and now the LIV golf announcement.

Boxing next?

They have artificially inflated the value of boxing. They are not the first and won’t be the last. Netflix are currently doing it now.

Promoters and boxing will run to the highest bidder. The Saudi money made huge historical events and the best card ever. They also had that awful event in Time Square.

Overall they have been good for boxing.

didn’t say they hadn’t just highlighting the current trend

everyone should have known this was coming eventually, it wasn’t ever about the sport, just public relations for saudi

Was honestly just a matter of time and said it from the very start, Turki and the bottomless purses almost encouraged guys to wait on the sideline and conditioned for hugely inflated purses moving forward. Turki treats boxing like a toy. Now it feels as though it’s being offloaded thru zuffa and with 15mill to Benn for a showcase the absurdity continues. Saudi Arabia and the UAE have its claws so dug into US politics that it’s now asking US for financial assurances and backing with the current Iran fiasco.

A matter of time maybe but did anyone expect it this quick

Absolutely it’s enough to give fans whiplash trying to keep up with the broader effects and what the true intent is when you see basic takeovers like that. But we’ve kinda done it to ourselves, and I’ll never ever understand the early lines of “saving boxing” and “making big fights we never had”. As if the decades prior were merely a blip. I personally think a lot of media got blinded in the fandom of it. I don’t think Saudi and Turki will completely fade away though, there’s just too much money and exterior influence in play and he’s 20-30 percent invested in Dazn.
