when i was getting a tv the fella in the store said samsung are the business, only negitave thing he said was sound isn’t as good as other ones, personally i would go for a full hd tv.
Well £500 is no longer cheap for a 37 inch, I mean you can buy crappy brand names like Teco and Hannspree 37 in for about £350.
But given the choice I’d rather spend a bit extra and buy a decent brand name. It’s my understanding that virtually every single lcd screen is actually a Samsung anyway so you’ll basically be getting a Samsung screen no matter what you buy.

That’s a Phillips 37 in for £550 that got middling reviews.
Check out places like Aria.co.uk they are great value for virtually everything, don’t be afraid to buy online.
And I know a lot of people won’t recommend it but I’ve bought virtually all my most expensive purchases via eBay and never had any problem.
I got a Dell 24 inch widescreen monitor brand new with a 4 year 24 hour swap replacement warranty £150 cheaper than anywhere else from someone on eBay. Even better it arrived only 18 hours or so after ordering!
I got a £1100 cycle ergometer for £600 and an absolute beast of a computer last year a full £200 cheaper than I could have got it even had I bought all the bits and built it myself.
I always find eBay great for bargains, you just really have to research who you are getting it from.
Bilbo are you recommending the Phillips as opposed to the Samsung, also I would not have gone for the cheaper brands that you mentioned anyway but that is still a cheap price.
Phil I have heard the same thing about the sound on the Samsung but what is full HD tv, I thought the Samsung should still do that?
Nope not recommending that particular telly just recommending that site as a good starting point for quality reviews. I’d say £500ish is a decent price to pay for a 37 inch. You can get them cheaper if you want a unbranded telly at a baragain price, and you can certainly pay a lot more for one with the best picture quality.
But about £500 is enough to get a decent 37 inch that balances cost and quality pretty well.
To be honest you won’t go much wrong with any of the well known brands at that price I imagine but definitely read up any reviews before hand.
You seem to be in the UK as well so make sure you do a lot of price checks.
Check out laughing deals.com for any money off and discount codes and maybe even try sites like Comet Auctions where you can bid for returns and maybe save another £60 to £100.
If it was me though I’d most likely read all the reviews I could find and then look to purchase either through Aria, or a reliable seller on eBay.
Ahhh Bilbo, we’re on the same page. As soon as I read the first post, I was going to recommend the Toshiba Regza, but then I had seen that you already posted it. I recently did a lot of research on 37" LCD TV’s, and came away liking that Toshiba the best.
That wil be the one I will get. That Cnet has got them a lot cheaper than everone else. Is it OK to go through them, just a bit suspicious that they are a lot cheaper with them.

I’m a little tight on the budget right now. I can’t be spending money on the stuff that I don’t really need. I’m satisfied with my 32" SONY momentarily. ;D
Well, I wasn’t buying it for me, I was going to get it as a xmas gift for someone, but I was asked to wait until this xmas to get it, so I will be getting it at that time.
I did a lot of research though, and I also went to the local store to check out the quality side by side with others, and decided that I liked it the best.
So sorry, can’t tell you if there are any problems yet.
Thanks for the response. I have done some research and will go for the Toshiba that Bilbo recommended. The best price I got was just under £660 and it is from beyond television.
I just bought a 40" Samsung and god damn its awsome.
it was listed at $999 Canadian.
its 720p native and 1080i capable.
you will only need 1080p if you are going bigger like a 46" tv otherwise there will be no difference from 720p.
1080p is just a higher resolution so i can be stretched across a bigger screen like a 46" or bigger.
Thanks for that info the Toshiba has 1080p but you are saying it makes no difference at 37". I also found out it does not swivel and can only be turned off from the mains switch which has put me off it. So still searching.
Funny you should say that I put the offer of a Toshiba yesterday but it was out of stock so they offered me a Samsung LE37A559P for £680 so I have ordered that one and it should come tomorrow.
