I got news off my sister today Paul is retiring.
Apparently he’s going to University to do teacher training and states he’s “Gone as far as he can” within the pro game.
I was shocked as anybody when I heard it. I can’t confirm it 100% but I’ll speak to a few more of the family and see.
He’s a good fighter Paul and he’s still young.Im a bit surprised but if thats what he wants to do good look to him.If anything he should maybe try and get a licence to manage or train up and coming boxers!I imagine him liking that kind of role!
I wondered what had happened to him. The last I heard he was an unbeaten prospect, what a shame. Talented boxer who wasn’t afraid of trading, ah well good luck in your future career.
Fair play to him, if he’s had enough with it then maybe a clean break would be good for him. Going to University wouldn’t necessarily stop him from boxing however, look at Nathan Cleverly.
However, if it’s teacher’s training he’s doing, he might have to arrange his fights in the school holidays so he wouldn’t have the black eyes in class. I don’t reckon that close loss to Bendall finished him, and maybe after some time away he might fall back in love with the sport and come back.

TBH Smith comes across like a bit of an arrogant fool over twitter. I know this thread is out of date, but has he retired? Or is he looking for someone to fight in a comeback?..
Paul Smith hasn’t retired, definately not. He’s training at Joe Gallaghers Gym and making a run at Middleweight. I always thought he looked a little small for SMW so maybe he can get success down a weight…
Perhaps he should have studied to be a teacher after all.
