On May 7, 2005, Diego Corrales and José Luis Castillo delivered one of the greatest fights in boxing history, a brutal war capped by a legendary tenth round that still defines the sport.
Brilliant contest and both boxers dug deep to try and win the contest.
Corrales spitting out his gum shield saved him and Castillo not making weight in the rematch which he won easily illustrates that doing the right thing is not always the best way.
Maybe Corrales’ most memorable win in a fight I thought Castillo had in the bag even before the tenth round drama.
unforgettable!
earnie shavers v roy williams r10 is another fun 10th round
This one encapsulated the sport at its chaotic best and defined just how unpredictable boxing and the fighters therein are minute to minute, second to second. You didn’t sit down watching wars like this, you paced the living room and thru the 10th round yelled so loud that it scared the shit out of the cat…true story
. On for the history books. It would be the last win inside the ring for Corrales and tragically he would lose his life on the exact same day just two years later. They were on track to do a third fight, but it fell apart. Definitely a round 10 for the history books.
