Oleksandr Usyk vacates titles

“It’s a good day to say that I want to vacate all the belts I currently hold.”

“I want to make them available, so that the guys who are next in the line can fight for them.”

He added: "Friends, I’m leaving the belts, but I’m not leaving the sport because I still have my last dance.

"I want to thank everyone. I have great respect for all organisations.

"I want to thank everyone and say there’s more to come! Glory to God for everything! Glory to Ukraine!

In the caption of his social media post, Usyk wrote: "This is a well-considered decision that I am confident will open new opportunities for me.

“This is not the end of the story. The continuation lies ahead.”

This is great for the other leading heavyweight who are able to challenge one another for the title.

Usyk may choose who he will face from the winners AJ/Fury, Moses/Hrgovic, Dubois/Wardley or Kabayel.

I hope Usyk doesn’t rematch Rico the kick boxer.

agit will probably be upgraded for the wbc, the wba could do the same for murat, frank sanchez v bakhodir jalolov for the ibf

So do you think he knows he is done after nearly losing to a kickboxer and just wants that last mega payday to ride off into the sunset with rather than wasting time with a mandatory that he has more chance of losing too.

Sad to see really. But ultimately and as a fan we want the very best world champs to go out on their terms. Be it a final W and decision to call it a day and hang the gloves up for good, or in blaze of glory facing top challengers to the very end and having the exit door forced open for them. Somewhere in the middle, there’s Usyk and this decision. To drop all the belts while still teasing bigger things and not being done imo can only point to him taking another circus event while not being tethered to the rules, dictates and responsibilities of the titles. It’s a little disappointing if I’m honest but then again, I’ve never been punched in the face for a living. Thanks for the memories champ.

Be a disappointing end to such a great career if his last dance as he’s calling it is rematching the kick boxer

So rumours are it’s going to be Wilder

It would be very disappointing if Usyk last fight is against Wilder. A top young hungry undefeated contender like Kabayel or Itauma would cement his legacy as the greatest of this generation.

Wilder best days are long behind him and it is probably a wish list for Usyk to face the American on his own turf.
