Moses Itauma v Jermaine Franklin

British heavyweight Moses Itauma will put his unbeaten record on the line when he faces American Jermaine Franklin at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester on 24 January.

The bout will headline a Queensberry Promotions ‘Magnificent Seven’ event with Scotland’s light-heavyweight Willy Hutchinson taking on England’s Ezra Taylor in the co-main event.

Itauma, 20, is unbeaten in 13 fights while 32-year-old Franklin has 24 wins and two losses on his record.

Frank Warren says the fight night will celebrate his 45th year as a boxing promoter.

“In all my years in boxing, this might be the best stable of fighters we’ve ever had and on this card we have the cream of the crop,” Warren said.

“I am very happy to have our heavyweight prodigy Moses topping the bill in another perfect test of his unquestionable credentials against a very tough American in Jermain Franklin.”

Itauma is on a run of nine stoppages in a row, six of them in the first round and his most recent win was a one-round destruction of Dillian Whyte in August.

The only defeats on Franklin’s record are to Anthony Joshua and Whyte.

Good set of fights, watch this video, Willy Hutchinson is a character and squares off against Ezra Taylor.

Decent enough match for Itauma. Off the top much rather see the #1,1,4 ranked heavyweight face at least a top ranked 10 or 12 guy but stylistically this could be good for Moses. Franklin is sturdy and has good hands and there is a hometown familiarity with him. I thought he did enough to beat Whyte close and off 12 with AJ they can present him as a measuring stick of sorts. Best thing for Moses is to get some rounds and frankly get hit on the chin for the first time on a bigger stage.

It’s not a bad fight, like we said he’s difficult to match up with. But why did we have to wait so long for it to come to fruition . Waste of a couple of months.

a light puncher who doesn’t let his hands go

Moses Itauma’s promoter, Frank Warren, thinks he could fight for a world title in 2026 if he beats Jermaine Franklin.

We’ve got a really, really good quality fight with Moses against Jermaine Franklin.

"You know, he’s never been stopped, and this is a tough fight for him.

"I think this is going to be the fight that will set [Itauma] up.

“I hope he comes through, and it will set him up this year to challenge for a world title.”

"People say to you that you want to get rounds under you.

"But you’re putting him in with fighters that you feel he will get rounds out of, and that’s the feeling with Jermaine.

"As I say, he’s never been stopped.

"He’s done 12 rounds and went the distance with AJ, I think it was four years ago. That’s a good AJ, four years ago.

"Same thing with Dillian Whyte, and a lot of people thought he actually nicked that fight. He won that fight.

"So this is a tough opponent for him. If he blasts him out in one or two rounds, I haven’t got a problem with that.

"You know, you don’t get paid overtime in boxing. You catch him, they go, and that’s it.

"He’s capable of doing that. That’s why he’s so exciting and that’s why people are buying into him.

"It’s a great show in Manchester. We’ve got seven fights on it. It’s another magnificent show, it’s [nearly] sold out.

"I feel that if Moses comes through this fight, I think he sets himself up for fighting for a world title, as I said earlier, before the end of the year.

“Maybe even becoming the youngest Brit to ever win a world title.”

Moses Itauma has been ruled out of his clash with Jermaine Franklin after suffering an injury.

It means the entire Magnificent 7 show has now been postponed, with Itauma unable to compete.

“Therefore the Magnificent 7 show has been re-scheduled for March 28th.”

Moses is goading Usyk and calling him “granddad”. No harm in teasing the great champion and shows you his confidence.

I am looking forward to Willy Hutchinson vs Ezra Taylor contest.

Frank Warren is now hoping to lodge a petition to the IBF for his man to face whoever emerges victorious between Sanchez and Torrez Jr when they collide in May.

“The IBF being contested between Richard Torrez and Frank Sanchez, one of the guys has pulled out with an injury, so that has been delayed until the summer,” Warren added.

"So maybe Moses has one more. I’ll be in Vietnam for the IBF convention (running from May 24 to May 28), petitioning for the winner of that fight.

Moses Itauma’s manager lays out route to world title with petition to be lodged | talkSPORT

team moses no longer talking about the wba strap now that kubrat no longer holds it? they afraid of murat’s power?

Imagine 101 talking heads and your own recent promotions dropping Tyson likenesses and history talk and now you’re petitioning an alphabet group while waiting on what happens with a Frank Sanchez. Just not a good look. Mike had already hit 12-0 in the time Moses just took between fights. Just do work, focus on your dinner plate.

Moses gave up on the idea of breaking Tyson’s record when it got too congested with Usyk unifying the titles. Itauma is level headed and very calm. There is a lot of pressure on him to be the next heavyweight champion but he has the skills and character to do it. Rumour is that should Moses win he could face Agit Kabayel next.

I am so out of touch, but will have a look. Based on the records, you’d think Itauma would be able to get past Franklin, but tbh he’s a young buck so we’ll see how he goes.

Level and calm, you can for sure see that in him. But to me it would be a huge shame/sham for Kabayel to go right into a shot at Usyk after his circus v the 1-0 karate kid fella runs its course.

Where you heard the Kabayel rumours Master?

Still think that’s way too soon. See how he does tonight but early days and some of us on here will remember Pele Reid.

Nice interview with Wardley on IFLTV with his views. Likeable guy
