Moore v Macklin

Jamie takes it by 10th round knockout.

WOW! What a fight! Whatever they got paid for that is not enough.

I just hope that Macklin is ok - he took a horrible fall and it’s never nice to see someone leaving on a stretcher. I said to myself at the end of the ninth ‘pull him out’ - he could hardly walk back to the corner. What heart he showed.

Credit to Moore - he was more compact and picked his shots. Matt blew himself out too early on.

Well done to Jamie, great fight and hats off to both fighters :appl:

yeah I echo those thoughts, what a fabulous fight it took me back to Benn V Eubank 1 all those years ago and I think in alot ways it was very similar.

Macklin came out like a train and was throwing every shot like he was trying to decapitate Moore and hurt him a few times but simply did not pace himself ( experience showed here by far)

What a great fight though I have to say I feel privilaged to have witnessed it.

I hope Macklin recovers and learns from that fight and I hope Jamie gets more high profile fights as he boxed very well against intense pressure.

talk about a barnstormer!!! WOW, again i hope macklin is ok. first two rounds were awsome from mat some terrific body shots but as the fight wore on i got the feeling moore was the smarter fighter, biding his time and picking his shots well, i also thought matts defence was very much lacking. the ninth round was breathtaking both guys landing brilliant shots and rocking each other a couple of times but by the end of the ninth macklin was staggering back to his corner and you could tell he was running on pure adrenalin. fantastic fight well done to both men they are both winners tonight.

I think Matthew tried to take it too soon, i personaly would of give him the first three rounds but that is also where i think he may of gone wrong, thinking that he could get in there and blow Jamie away early, he had clearly tired himself out of the fight by the later stages but yet somehow seemed to come back with that little extra bit of strength that still kept you wandering ?

well done to both fighters on what was an amazing specticle of boxing, we now know that Matthew will be OK, and lets hope that he will go on in the future to take the british title, when Jamie moves on and wins the European

And then we will have British and European holders from not just the North-West, But the Capital of it, MANCHESTER in the area (come on)

Breathtaking fight that and great to watch. The way it ended wasn’t very nice but it seems from what was being said that Macklin appears to be alright, so that’s good.

Was split beforehand on who I wanted to win, but must say I did feel a bit for Macklin with the unbelievable effort he put into it, as everyone else has said he just didn’t pace it right and the tank was clearly empty. Credit to Moore though he took some big punches throughout and came through well in the end.

I think Macklin can afford the loss more than Moore could have done and both could go onto better things IMO.

Yeah, Macklin basically fought himself to a standstill but Jamie showed his experience to soak it up early and take his time.

I’ve always liked Moore and i hope he does get his dream of a shot at a World Title. Hopefully Matt can come again Like Jamie did after he was stopped by Scott Dixon.

I posted virtually the same on Saddo’s boxing, at the end of the Ninth you could see Macklins legs shaking he was that Knackered.

I thought he was starting to take a bit of a lesson from round 5-6 but Macklin was competative, but Jamie was just slipping most soaking up the rest, and turning and countering. What a match though, and sounds like Macklin is going to fight another day, is mega dehydrated.

Fantastic fight i was holding my breath at the end hoping he would just get up i am so glad heseems to be ok. Gladiators both of them
so out on thier feet awsome :o
'ricky did look a little plump’he he :-\

yep great fight both have my total respect and it was nice of jamie to cancel his afterparty to go and see matty in hospital.

wish matty well soon

I said exactly the same thing to all the boys i was with…

Great fight, i think the experience came through on the night.

Both looked good, both warriors!

I did think Matt looked wreckless at times, but he still put in a great effort.

Moore Macklin II anyone?

Just got back, what a fight, but I’m extremely concerned about matt. Cheers Leve Lad, Gibbo, Ralphfilthy, Urstonbound and the girls, fir a great night, just hope it hasn’t been tarnished. Matthew seemed in an awful state, from 3rd round onwards

Fantastic effort by both guys.

Thought Jamie’s experience really shone through, and it’s one of the best performances I’ve seen from him. Very smart, very compact and very accurate with his counters - which he threw at just the right times when Macklin was building up a head of steam.

Hope Macklin is OK, I suspect he was simply exhausted / dehydrated, because a lesser man would not have seen those later rounds - he fought on sheer GUTS. That said, his strategy was all wrong from the off and his economy of punches was horrible.

What an amazing fight, it was Gatti-Ward style in that ninth.

As G-man said - whatever they got paid, it wasn’t enough.

We have all been treated to somthing very special. The best fight ive seen in ages. Both Lads should be proud.
I was shouting for the towel to come in when ‘wallop’ Jamie landed the bomb.

awesome stuff.

Great fight. I’d love to see a second fight, if Macklin can pace himself better it will be just as exposive…i still think someone would again get knocked out though.

Jamie won’t want the rematch straight away, but if both guys get some good wins under their belts, along the line a trilogy may be on the cards…Glad to hear Macklin is OK…

And yeah, i agree with that guy, Rick does look proper plump! He did suggest that he and Castillo would get it on around June time too…

A privilege to watch it, a privilege to have been there and a shame someone had to lose.

Both fighters are a credit to the game, kudos to Jamie for going to see Matty in hospital and to his army of fans for stopping celebrating when they realised he was in trouble.

Jamie was gone at the end of the 7th, you can’t see it on tele but he was shaking and saying ‘I’m fucked, I’m fucked’ Macklin knew it and went for it in 8 & 9. He basically finished himself because he had took better digs than that all night, not to take anything away from Moore though, clever display and great finish

The Hitman is carrying it in his face cos everywhere else he looks as solid as an ox!

It’s pretty much all been said. It was the best fight I’ve seen since Castillo/Corrales. Unbelievable stuff.

I agree Matt should have been pulled out. I could see him going down heavily at some point - he was stumbling around like a zombie in rounds 9 and 10. When he did go down I thought “oh no this could be serious” with visions of Watson and McLellan. Thankfully he seems to be okay though.

Brilliant performance from Jamie. Lesser fighterswould have wilted under the sheer pressure and pace Matt was setting, but he kept his cool, picked his shots and ensured he had enough in reserve to finish the fight. Hopefully Matt can come back - he fought the wrong fight really, even though he looked in superb condition I think he overestimated his fitness. Fighting a championship fight at that pace is a different proposition altogether to the bodybelt session.

WOW, What a fight !

Possible fight of the year so far in a british ring.

Quote from Moore “it could have been 2 mexicans in the ring”.

I thought Moore fought a very intelligent fight, he invited Macklin forward, not that Macklin needed much invitation. When Moore backed off and against the ropes he used great latteral movement and shoulder defence to evade the power shots from Macklin. This ultimately lead to Macklin blowing himself out and Moore taking advantage of this in the later rounds by landing some really accurate blows that sapped the living soul out of Macklin. I especially thought Moore’s inside work on the ropes was classic of early Tyson, the way he came up with sharp uppercuts after rolling around his opponent , coupled with sharp crosses really took it out of Macklin.
Dont get me wrong Macklin fought a brave fight but i had Moore winning all but two rounds, the first and eighth. The 9th round was a barnstormer and ultimately the turning point in respect to Macklins strength leaving him.

I wonder what effect the 15 rounds he done on the body bag with Billy Graham took out of him?

Moore to move onto european and world honours now, just hope he can reach those heights as i think he’s an intelligent, tough fighter, and deserves all he gets. I Hope Macklin also recovers we from this and goes onto brighter things as he has the exciting style i like to see

Totally agree, I thought Moore was really getting some good work in on the inside, I thought he dominated really because of that.

His rolling shoulder defence worked a treat, been watching a bit of Floyd I suspect! And he just used his brains by turning out of the corners as soon as it was safe, not letting Macklin pin him there.

Reminiscent of Watson / Benn I guess, the guy who used his head won the fight.

Anyone know how the scoring looked? I thought Jamie’s best work might go unnoticed if it made it to points (which was never likely!)

I personally don’t think it would of detracted from him too much - he looked in the best shape i’ve ever seen him - really cut. Infact, he did amazingly well to throw bombs throughout the 9 and a half rounds IMO.

For me it was down to the fact everything he threw was a power shot - all or nothing. He didn’t use any punches to set himself up, you know, just touching with the jab and sliding to the side etc., taking breathers etc. Moore was much more economical but you could see the pace affected him too.

Jamie’s short punching is awesome, those little uppercuts and screw shots on the inside.

Just a great fight - it was exhausting just watching it - a real grueller. I couldn’t sleep last night off the buzz and i haven’t been like that since the Tszyu fight/Gomez-Arthur.
