Lets get one thing straight this is not a superfight!!!
Duran - Sugar Ray was a superfight this is an intresting match up between an 35year old Semi retired hall of famer and the Speedy Gonzales of boxing !!
Floyd Mayweather has never paid his dues at Welterweight or Lightwelter and now gets the slice of the pie at Lightmiddle .
Oscar on the other hand has paid his dues but lets face it he’s been in hibernation for the last 3 years his heart left boxing right after the Tito robbery and never really returned !!
He was beat by Sturm ( unofficially) and served himself up against Hopkins and never really shown any intrest in the Lightmiddleweights
So why does this fight meet the criteria of a Superfight in so many peoples eyes ?
One word …HYPE .
The fight hinges on what De La Hoyas got left absolutley nothing else matters , Mayweather the biggest hyped fighter of the Millenium will not show great counter punching skills or a great power or a big heart and he will never dig deep he will do what he always does , box to a plan and stop the other guy working !!!
Stand off flashy combinations with no substance might be enough to impress the Johnny Come Latelys of the boxing world but it doesnt impress ME.
Mayweather the showout King who fought nothing but shit in the last 6 years is completely undeserving of this fight !!!
Ill watch it but the pragmatic sense of reality knows that this fight will not live up expectation and id rather go out and enjoy myself .
Porky , these fights rarely live upto expectation and anything with Mayweather the original Smoke and Mirrors kid is not worth a bucket of fermented Horse Milk .
Fair play to Oscar but he is well past it , Mayorga got bashed to live but remember Mayorga-Tito ?
Same template used by Oscar look good against Mayorga used by Tito and you saw what little Tito had Left against WW .
He couldnt have been shorter on Ideas .
Oscar carried Boxing on his shoulders for 10 years i begrudge him nothing .
If you are looking for a battle of two (2) fighters exchanging big punches like Trinidad-Vargas, Morales-Barrera, Morales-Pacman, Ward-Gatti, Carbajal-Gonzalez, this might not be the fight. I think we are going to see a DLH probably chasing Floyd who will be trying to pass DLH punches and counter punch. Anything can happen, but it should be more of a tactical fight. But, if you are a boxing fan try to watch it. If you don’t like to pay for this type of technical fights (in theory) then, may try to save your $$$ visiting a neighbor the night of the fight who paid for it. ;D
The only fight it might be compared to is..
ODLH vs Sweat Pea.
I don’t know.
I think it will more hype than anything else.
Floyd will leave a lot to be desired.
I can see people booing his azz again and leaving.
I don’t remember any fight as bad as the Baldo fight. I mean people booing and leaving a fight at the peak of Floyd’s career? Un heard of. No one walked out on Ray Leonard’s prime time fights except Roberto Duran.
If Floyd does not do well in this fight, he can kiss his so called legacy good bye. He will not be able to retire with all the hungry Welters waiting for his punk azz. He will be mocked and criticized for many years to come.
Its the best fighter in the game against the biggest draw in the game - who is still one hell of a fighter. Doesn’t live up to the superfights of yesteryears, but it will still be a very intriguing fight for anyone who is a boxing fan. I understand your points, but to go so far as to say you don’t care is bullshit and you know it.
Well,as an event,I think it looks awesome. I mean the whole will he,won’t he with Floyd senior being in Oscar’s corner etc and the touring, all the smack talk. But as a fight,I don’t see it living up to the hype, although for the sake of boxing,I hope it does.
I hope we see an exciting fight because SO MANY people will be watching,it could attract more fans to boxing. If it’s boring, fans(casual ones_) may think twice about watching boxing and may look into alternatives like mma etc.
:appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: CC… and if we are in the minority then that that just means we’re seeing things more clearly than most.
I also think this fight is vastly overhyped. Floyd has the opportunity to prove himself against good young fighters and yet he opts to fight a older version of DLH that is a just a dangerous question mark.
I’m a Tito fan and like all the other Tito fans went crazy when he beat Mayorga down. We all know what happened to him against Winky. All DLH has done in the last 3 years is beat a guy who just recently had his manhood taken away in the ring in his previous fight by Tito and sit on his title for exactly a year.
