What do you guys think? If Floyd wins, I bet he calls it quits or goes after Shane. If he loses, MAYBE we’ll have a chance for Hatton Mayweather at 147.

Wow.
Interesting fight that I wasn’t sure would come off. Amazing what can happen when competent promoters get in a room and really make an effort to make a deal.
That must be nice for a fighter in his prime to have.
Definitely the biggest fight that could’ve been made in boxing today. Since this fight will be at 154, I have to favor Oscar. Floyd will be hit the hardest he has ever been in this fight, and we will get to see how Floyd can take a punch from a much bigger guy.
I think if Mayweather does win, he will keep his word and retire. Oscar on the other hand is saying he will keep fighting. Interesting turn of events.
i never thought it would come off. Wish the date was a little bit sooner, but I’m glad it is happening.
Let the speculation begin …
Here’s my theory:
Oscar obviously saw something in Floyd’s last performance that assured him that he could take him out. This is going to be a HUGE payday but the decision to take this fight was definately not just for the Benjamins since Oscar could have gotten comparable ducketts fighting a handfull of other fighters. DLH never signs on for this fight unless he sees his legacy increasing exponentially by taking Floyd’s “o”.
I don’t know exactly how he’s going to get it done but the fact that he makes this deal 10 days after the Baldomir fight tells me he’s almost positive he’s going to win. Since Oscar obviously knows this game much better than I ever will I’ll go on the record as picking Oscar to win.
DLH KO round 9
I believe Oscar will win as well, and I will be rooting for him.
Ricky must get Castillo ASAP (May or June) after Urango, so he can prepare for a longshot matchup with Floyd in November or December 07. If it’s not meant to be, he might as well get Witter out of the way.
Well they certainly nailed that down quickly. Certain other promoters take note… ![]()
I still see a unanimous decision for Mayweather, it will be interesting to see what weight Floyd comes in at though. If he weighs 154 would he still be able to do his punch and run act for 12 rounds?
Moonlight, win or lose, Oscar may have also seen something else in Floyd: a future business partner. He has Hopkins, Mosely and Barrera, so why not go for Floyd? In fact, I’m surprised he didn’t pick up Hatton to add another demographic to his promotion’s marketing base.
I wonder what this fight will be billed as? Probably “Pretty Golden” or some bollocks. ;D
Gymbo, you may be onto someting there. It might be called that or Golden Opportunity. This match is gold for both men. It doesn’t matter who wins or loses.
Oscar could get KOed with a jab in the first round, and still make more money than any, or just about any other fighter in boxing (in his next match).
If Floyd loses, he can still go back to 147, where he is the real champion, and have a lucrative career. He’ll be able to say he started his career at 130, won titles in four divisions, became pound 4 pound #1 (in Ring’s and many peoples’ eyes), and moved up to 154 to fight the legendary Oscar De La Hoya for a fifth title, and came up short, just like Oscar did against Hopkins. You know his spin. It’s a win win situation for him. The exposure he’ll get facing Oscar will only increase his future paydays, if he chooses to continue.
Of course we’ll be able to say he was never the real champion at 140, and he moved up to 147, instead of facing the real champ, Ricky Hatton. He has unfinished business with Ricky, regardless of his outcome against De La Hoya.
This is a dangerous fight for both guys but more so for Floyd because of the weight issue since DLH has already fought at 154 ALBEIT unimpressively!
154 is Oscar’s weight limit and he looked great at around the 147 mark but this is a fight that will do a lot for both fighter’s legacies.
Floyd hasn’t had a meaningful fight since his lightweight days and this will boost him right back up there so I got to give full respect to him for taking this one.
It’s a pick em fight but I give the edge to DLH.
Btw, Larry Merchant already said the fight should be a done deal this week and I’ll always believe him from now on. ![]()
I read on boxingtalk that Mayweather has signed to wear reyes gloves! Well done oscar, thats a great bit of negotiation!
I thought he looked impressive against Mayorga, although admittedly Mayorga doesn’t have any where near the skill set of PBF. I can see Oscar being really up for this and as I think that Middleweight was a step too far for Oscar just as I think Lightmiddle will be for PBF. I feel that if Zab could cause PBF problems then Oscar carrying a bit more pop will hurt him. I predict a late stoppage for the Goldenboy. At least thats what I’m hoping.
If Oscar hits mayweather cleanly then its game over for the pretty boy, does oscar still have the speed to be able to land it tho?
Will the extra weight slow floyd down?
Will Floyd be able to hurt oscar?
Other than his speed and technical ability I dont believe Floyd can win any other way than hit and run tactics.
Does anyone on here believe PBF could stop ODH?
Close call for me at that weight, Osca a tried and tested legend in with PBF…who has not really been tested…yet…never off his feet as a pro, undefeated and the younger man emmmmmmm…PBF on points seeing as Im always gobbin off bout how good he is…
Do you now believe hes got class… come on …moving up (again) to take on a phenominal boxer in Osca, or is it to be PBF in a set up, or PBF fighting a legend thats more in the twilight of his career, or PBF runnin away from whoever’s in favour on the day…at whatever weight.Thats if he wins …I think…he just may do that.
I take Oscar to win this in style. When he gets close to Mayweather he will let go and has the hand speed to connect. TKO/KO round 5.
I don’t think anyone doubts his talent but lets not get carried away here. I mean this fight is for the money so lets not dress it up, i mean if ODLH wasn’t such a jackpot then i have no doubt PBF would have made the Spinks fight.
For once credit should go to Floyd for taking the fight and without any messing about. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a genuine 50/50 contest.
Yeah I agree with that…but can you fault Floyd for taking the risk ..big risk too in fighting ODLH.AS WELL AS THE MONEY…after all it is his career.
