marciano gave holmes his 1st loss

rocky cant hold my jockstrap—holmes, that prob pissed alot of people off

had holmes said something like…

marciano was great, i have alota respect for him and the record he’s held, tonight i will equal his record, and in the future surpass it

but holmes had 2 b an ass****, so i believe if holmes gave respect to marciano the outcome would have been different. so there4 his loss was rockys revenge

What are you talking about? ???

Are you talking about the Spinks decision? I’m a Holmes fan, and I can’t say that he won the first fight. The second fight I think he got robbed, but that would count as his second loss.

What the Spinks fight? ???

Man I’m even more confused now ???

damn dude, get off Rocky Marciano’s nutsack

Holmes was undefeated and needed 1 more win to either tie, or break Marciano’s undefeated heavyweight record. Before he fought Spinks to get the record, he told the media that Marciano couldn’t hold his jock strap. Therefore, that’s why he was believed to be cursed, and lost the fight. I think he just flat-out lost, but I think he won the rematch and the judges robbed him.

that’s weird, i was pretty sure he said that comment after he lost to spinks out of frustration with the judges.
Could be wrong though

I’m not sure, I think you are right, but that wouldn’t make sense according to the start of the thread, would it? All I know is he lost, and deserved to, but he won the second fight with Spinks, and because of his image, I think they robbed him. If you find out for sure, let me know because now I’m getting confused.

He was right though. Marciano really couldn’t hold his jock strap.

He did indeed say it AFTER the decision.

I think personally Spinks deserved the decision just… but the rematch was undoubtedly a robbery.

But I think people sometimes forget Holmes was damn lucky to turn 48-0 as Carl Williams was clearly unlucky to lose to Holmes in fight #48, and Whitherspoon was also a bit unfortunate in 83, and some would say Norton deserved something in his fight with Holmes in 78…

So IMO, Holmes can not moan all that much, boxing decisions tend to be swings and roundabouts.

I saw the Williams-Holmes fight. I would say that Williams won the first five rounds easily but then Holmes managed to get 9 of the last 10. Just my opinion BK. But it is always great to see our different perspectives. Have a cool click on me.

Of course not, he had been dead for 15 years

And it is almost never noted that Holmes apologized to the Marciano family almost immediately, and they accepted his apology pointing out that the situation was such, that it was an understandable moment of bitter disappointment.

And indeed Holmes got an award from the Marciano family for his charity record a few years back… So if the Marciano family can forgive him perhaps others need to take a step back?

I wander if Valuev will be saying that Marciano or Holmes would not be fit to hold his jockstrap any time soon? :puke:

Actually on the Champions Forever documentary after dinner get together with Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton and Holmes, Holmes says he belived he was the greatest in any era, better than Ali and Marciano.

He said the only fighter who would have given him problems would have been Jack Johnson.

TRUE MEDIA.

You have a point; perhaps ‘damn unlucky’ was pushing it… just trying to make a point.

I remember the fight, but being 10 years old at the time, I probably did not score it, but I remember a lot of people after the fight suggesting Williams had been unlucky… Perhaps the truth  is Holmes used his experience to sneak the decision?

marciano he probably could beat, but ALI–hell no–ali would whup him–it took holmes 11 rounds to beat the old ali on prescription drugs–1964 ali would kill holmes

thats true, and holmes couldnt hold ali’s jock strap

Holmes is a arrogant dickhead.

A prime Foreman also would beat the hell out of a prime Holmes (Foreman also would have destroyed Marciano).
