I dont know much about the man or the boxer, but I know he was a champion. I also know he fought some bums, but also some greats. Among the greats was Jake LaMotta. In the fight, Marcel was down in the 1st, and could not continue in the tenth due to a shoulder injury. The two were scheduled to meet in a rematch but the AirFrance flight carrying Cerdan back to the United States crashed and Cerdan died along with everyone else on the flight. His best fight must have been his win over Tony Zale. It was the Ring Magazine fight of the year according to boxrec. Does anyone know more about him?

I suppose that Cerdan ranks pretty high among middleweights, maybe somewhere between #15 and #20. He would rank higher if he had fought more against other contenders, but like so many fighters of his era he fought most of his fights against beginners and bums.
I seem to remember reading about him in a book. He had an affair with Edith Piaf (im such a gossip), I think if you search her name you may find some interesting stuff about him, his training techniques etc. :cwm15:
