Boxingtalk.com receieved a call from Jeff Wald, the executive producer and partner of the Tournament of Cotender group. Wald informed us that TOC has been in discussions with Gary Shaw for a Peter Manfredo-Jeff Lacy showdown later this year. According to Wald, Manfredo Jr trainer Freddie Roach was mistaken when he informed Boxingtalk’s Brad Cooney that Manfredo could be fighting Joe Calzaghe. “We’re discussing a Jeff Lacy fight with Gary Shaw, but there have been absolutely no discussions regarding Joe Calzaghe.” Stay tuned to our front page for all the latest!
Only if he is gunshy. If he does not show such a huge reluctancy to be hit, like he did last time against Tarver, albeit a man who KO’d him, he will win fairly easily. His tremendous speed is still there, and at 168 he hits really really hard.
Damn straight, I truly believe that Mayorga, Ouma, Quartey, or Forrest would all destroy Manfredo as well. Beating a completley shot Pemberton means nothing, meant nothing for Lacy either, we see that now. But fellow RJJ fan, could Jones do it? Could he beat Calzaghe, I think so myself, but he would have to not be afraid to be hit, and throw some DAMN PUNCHES!
Before the awful Calzaghe beat down I would have laughed at a Manfredo fight for Jeff, but now it seems like an OK idea. Lacy needs confidence right now.
For Lacy it makes sense, he gets a tune up fight against somebody that can bring in some money for the fight. From Manfredo’s side it doesnt make sense. I dont think Manfredo has the power or ability to move fast enough and long enough to stay away from Lacy’s power. Lacy inside of 8.
i remember back in the amateurs at the 99 us championships, jermain taylor knocked manfredo clean out during their match. then beat him again a couple months later.
