any tips on how to practice throwing a good left hook, my arm finds it hard to get the correct angle so that i hit with front knuckles. Im pretty tall so tight lefts are not at too much of a use to me. it seems that i can throw very clean uppercuts, so my left isnt weak, but the hook has been causing me problems. Is it all about the angle?
You throw a horizontal fist when you close and a vertical fist when your farther away. Keeps you from breaking your pinky. Practice your distance with your hook and you’ll see what i mean.
Well, try bending your elbow more, or maybe bringing your elbow up more, and pivoting your whole body into it so that when you hit him you are pretty much sideways.
I myself don’t like throwing hooks. I think having long arms makes it more difficult, but all I know is that I don’t throw good hooks…
Even try having your rear foot turn the reverse way on impact too for more power and pivot;
Slide the rear heel in.
If your good at the uppercut ,start there and slightly vary your angle so you get around to the 45% hook which is half a hook half an uppercut really. Then keep comming up with practice.Fist vertical (thumb up)on the lower ones horizontal or vertical on the upper level horizontal hits depending on distance and target.
great thanks ill give it a try and get back to you all
I took your advice and was pleasently surprised.

If your uppercut is working well, so is your hook. You just haven’t seen it yet. Try this; throw a left uppercut. Then throw it again, raising your elbow as the fist travels. It should end with the two large knuckles on the left touching your right shoulder. By the way, hooks and uppercuts are always short punches, tall or not. ( I’m near 6’3" and when i “participated” i began at 147, finished at 176) Keep elbow within a 90degree angle and wrist locked. Good luck :-\
Look back a few pages for a topic called hooks its very recent
