Anyone seen this one yet? If not I recomend it, one of the best heavyweight fights I’ve seen for years.
Lailhovich won this up and down battle on points even after being knocked down in the 7th. Now with liakhovich taking brewsters wbo strap it throws another name into the heavyweight scene (just to give some clarity to the murky waters :o )
This was the 1st time I’d seen the fella and he seems to have pretty decent skills, relatively fast hands and a good workrate. Overall I think he’ll make a good addition to the heavyweight scene - I just hope he’s willing to take on the likes of klitschko rahman et al
Was a great fight and like Ralph said i would watch this one if u can, ive seen Sergei Liakhovich 2 time now in the guinn fight he looked good but nothing to talk about but this fight he looked great he outwork Lamon Brewster and and him in real bad trouble 5 or 6 time i got to say Brewster has a great chin and one the bigest heart of all boxer he get hurt so bad that he cant stand up but slug it out for 12 rounds should be a could rematch for them if it happens
When I heard that Brewster lost I was abit surprised cuz he seemed to be showing decent form with a 1 round Golota win .
I didnt see the fight so I cant really comment on Liakhovich but I hope he’s not a Valuev type of fighter. Just a thought that if Wvlad and Maskaev repeat their wins over Byrd and Rahman then all 4 world champs will be white Russians
I won’t watch this fight again cos it made me angry that I lost a bet on Brewster to surely win.
Obviously not.
Brewster showed heart to stay up but not to fight back and try to win…he didn’t even try in the last couple rounds but he did well in the middle.
Sergei is nothing special, he’s predictable and leaves himself open which is why I am actually so surprised Brewster lost to this type of fighter and didn’t capitalise on the openings.
Skav, he got beat properly mate, it was a really good fight, and brewster was something close to his best, Lyakhovic had an iron chin, otherwise he would have definatly lost the fight in the 5th, he took loads of clean shots from brewster and kept firing back. IMO one of the fights of the year, it had me out of my seat at least 5 times! Shows that there still may be hope for the division in the form of a belarussian. He’d beat rahman with his speed.
In the states they were trying to claim that brewster was going to clean up the heavy weight division. I watched him against klitchko and that fight was a gift to brewster. The first couple rounds when Klitchco wasnt gassed he gave lamon a beat down. When they stopped the fight it was more out of exhaustion than lamon landing anything. He was terrible vs meehan and golota self destructed. Yeah lamon landed good shots but golota is emotionally shot. I never really thought much of brewster.
He’s hardly the future of heavyweight boxing, but the fact he can even be touted as such shows what a mess the division is in.
Damn good scrap though, the kid has decent speed, he beat Brewster to the punch all through and landed loads of body shots, quite extraodinary considering he seemed a fair bit taller and very upright.
EXCELLENT fight! Liakhovitch is strong, good skills, fast, and a determined fighter. He gave as good as he got.
Unfortunately Brewster lost his title/ but he’ll be back. His chin is rock solid, his heart is tremendous. He has explosive power…but Sergi was able to survive.
I haven’t seen the fight, but can’t say I’m surprised at the result. It’s just further affirmation of the sorry state of the division and lack of clarity. There is no real heavyweight champ, more like a heavweight merry-go-round at the moment. The Russians could have 3 of the 4 belts soon…
