For some reason this kid seems to be disliked by many on here, hopefully that will change, I started to like him after he gutted out a good win over Contreras and then dominated Lakva Sim. I thought he was impressive tonight considering how long he’d been off.

I’m firmly on the bandwagon, he’s cracked my top ten favorite fighters list, I never am bored watching him fight, and he’s not a bad fighter. By no means is he invulnerable, he’s always gonna be in tough fights cause of his lack of power but I’m an Augustus fan, I care more about how entertaining a guy is than whether or not he’s “elite”. And he’s pretty good, he’s not just entertaining.

I like Diaz. I just wish they talked more about Cotto blocking shots with his arms like they did in the second fight when Alvarez did it against Arce.

One time I fell asleep while watching one of this 12 rounder fights. Honest!

It’s a :dummespost: I know! But his rounds to tend to be on “repeat” when he dominates, no power to finish, but the work ethic to keep it one sided.

You know I’ve heard people saying the same thing about Ouma, that he’s powerless and when he’s in a zone the rounds tend to all be the same. Maybe I just like that kind of fighter, I don’t know, I like guys that stand and throw punches, whether they have a ton of power or not

yea. I had the fight resting on the 12th actually. muted it from the start of the fight. And Diaz won the 12th and won the fight. I heard the scores and were disgusted. 116-114 I can handle but not the landslides.

I had it 8-4 actually but it was a pretty competitive 8-4 if you know what I mean, I just thought although Cotto threw a ton Diaz landed the clearly more meaningful punches IMO.

I get jealous when fight fans say that, cause it questions my loyalty to boxing, haha.

But Ouma is one of my fav’s though. Name fighters were lucky Ouma lost (Perhaps sick too.), because he has the toughness and volume to give any top fighter problems.

He might not be super exciting but he showed some strategic flexibility tonight against Jose Cotto. He started out trying to push Cotto back to the ropes and land hard body shots, but then after 2 or 3 rounds he realized that it wasn’t really working, and he changed his tactics and started to really use his jab and stay outside more. It worked great and won him the fight. He still did some inside fighting and landed some nice flurries, but the jab won him the fight. His hand speed was superior. Maybe his corner told him to use his jab more.

Didnt see last nights fight yet, but i have been taking a look at him whenever I could. Wether he lacks pop or not, I am impressed with his form. He seems disciplined, shows good habits and looks pretty tight and focused the times when i’ve seen him. He keeps his hands high and doesnt seem to put himself in a bad position much.

Diaz looked awesome last night. Most definitely a fight with either Castillo or Corrales would be a barnburner. Diaz’s handspeed is amazing, but unfortunately he really doesn’t have a lot of power.

i had it 117-111 for diaz, im a houstonian and a fan of his, what i didnt like is that Larry Merchant mentioned his parents jobs. There was no need to say what they do for a living

I’m with you on the entertainment value of a fighter. People were trashing Brewster after that loss last week. I thought it was a great fight, and more of a reason to put him on tv, not less.

With Cotto - Diaz fight, for me it seems they are just slapping each other, Pacquiao, Morales, Corrales could have KO’d the 2 of them.

Diaz won’t last long at 135lbs.

Juan Diaz’s mother was dying in there. That’s a good way to get an ulcer, worrying the way she did. If Diaz ever got into real trouble in the ring or was taking a beating, I don’t think she could take it anymore. Maybe she shouldn’t even come to his fights, just watch them at home. In any case, Diaz is an easy guy to root for. He’s got lots of skill and plenty of heart. All he lacks is 1-punch knockout power.

Diaz’s undoing will be against a power puncher who breaks him down. it will look like Hopkins Johnson when Diaz finally loses.

Not only did he look good in there, the guy is a full time student! The only thing I don’t like is the whole time I’m watching him tag his opponent I’m thinking, “If only this guy had power behind those punches!” He would be something else.

Either way, great fighter, and I loved the way he went out there and gutted it out with Cotto in the 12th even though it was unnecessary.

Best fight of the night. Juan is good. Cotto is a good fighter too. Hats off to both.

Juan may not have that much power, but he was determined, and put in on the last four rounds. Cotto may have outlanded a couple of those rounds, but they were week arm punches. Diaz was hitting with authority. Diaz won a close one, against a game opponent. And, he turned it up when he needed to, regardless of the layoff. Win or lose, Diaz,IMO, is a fighter to the bone.
