Joe Frazier
Action News 5 (wmcstations.com) and News Channel 3 out of Memphis are both confirming that Memphis Mayor Willie W. Herenton, a former champion golden gloves boxer in his youth, is in-training and will return to the ring to box former world heavyweight champion Smokin’ Joe Frazier in Memphis this fall!
The Herenton-Fraizer fight is reported to be a way to raise money for the Mayor’s cash-strapped alma mater, LeMoyne-Owen College.
Action News Five reports: Herenton is training for the three round battle with Frazier to be held at The Peabody in September!
Mayor Herenton is a four time Tri-State boxing champion, but never turned Pro.
lol whats up miles …damn thats crazy even if its gentle ..if youd seen frazier lately hes not really healthy and he needs to use a cane sometimes this is odd …anyway i didnt see ur thread & made one about it too
hey there, means! i agree with your sentiments its a very odd move…and thats why im focussing on the charity aspect. i dont think these old guys will be going out there to knock each other out. they are just going to put on a little show and hopefully raise some cash for a good cause in the process…
i dont expect any knock outs or stunned fighters in this…
Frazier will have his way with Herenton in this fight. And in the process convince himself he still has it. Which will lead to a comeback. A first round knock out to Louis Monaco sends him back to his rocking chair.
in this article they say the contracts arent signed and they thought about fighting holyfeild
joes too old and needs a cane …i feel at this stage in his life getting bumped on the head or breaking a hip or somthin should be considered likely enough not to fight
