I havn’t seen enough footage of Sugar Ray to comment but the only person to ever truely take it to Hearns in his prime was Hagler and because he was obviously too tough for the hitman, he couldn’t be hurt. BTW don’t say Ray Leonard he was losing before Tommy became gassed in the 1st and lost the 2nd fight
Who wins and why?
Can do this for 2 different divisions as well, one for welterweight and one for middleweight
Good thread m8 - I think Hearns is one of the few Welterweights in history that would’ve had a real chance of beating a Prime SRR - I don’t think he would’ve, but it would’ve been mighty close
I would have to say that if this fight were held today at welterweight, it would probably end up about the same as Leonard-Hearns first fight with Hearns turning boxer and making to the late rounds. I see Robinson coming on for the finisher while behind on points, probably round 11. Frankly I’d say Robinson the welterweight, because of his age and abilities below the age of 30 when he won the middleweight title, would better Hearns at any stage of Hearns game. If it weren’t for the heat Robinson would have become light heavy champ in 1952.
That being said, Hearns as a middleweight versus Robinson after 1952 would have been a pick ‘em fight especially after Sugar Ray came back in 1954. He had lost a step and was beginning to fade til after 1961 when he wasn’t much more than a fringe contender. Just my thoughts, we’'ll never know if I am right or wrong.
Funny as it seems Id go wity Hearns here, SRR struggled with straight punches from movers eg Turpin. He was losing the second fight with Turpin before Turpins condition let him down. Also he struggeled working to his right, Ive noticed this watching tapes for hours Hearns would put him in that mode.I think Hearns would give him knightmares, my opinion
HAVENT U SEEN THE 1 PUNCH KO ON GRAZIANO ?? I THINK RAY HAS THE 1 PUNCH POWER
ADVANTAGE IN THIS FIGHT DUE TO HEARNS WEAK CHIN !! ALTHOUGH WOULD BE A GREAT FIGHT !!
WTF does that have to do with anything? Leonard fought way harder punchers than Robinson did, and Robinson was alot slower than Leonard. Don’t forget Hearns knocked Duran out COLD.
As I said before SRR struggled with boxers, his best wins were against sluggers. He was a puncher who threw them in clusters and was heavy handed, but he kept away from cuties and movers, no doubt He was agreat fighter in fact an all time great .But at middle how would he go on with a Hagler or Monzon it would not be easy
