holmes was like 35–not that old and about to equal marciano’s record
do gift decision 4 spinks or holmes really lost?
pple can argue about holmes truly beating norton-i feel if the fight was neck and neck–that the champ should retain the title–

Like you I have not seen either fight. But I hear both were gift decisions for Spinks. Besides aren’t the Spinks family known for getting gift decisions? (Cory vs Mayorga, Cory vs Judah I).
I haven’t seen the Holmes Spinks 1st fight for a long time but I remember thinking at the time that Spinks edged it. Spinks was the busier & shaded the close rounds.
The second fight I thought Holmes won but even in that fight Spinks was busier & Holmes couldn’t quite work out his style. Spinks was hurt late on & I thought Holmes had done enough.
Sounds a lot like Taylor vs Hopkins, old champion doin enuff but gettin screwed. Least Holmes showed who the man was when he fought Tyson as opposed to when Spinks did. Or didn’t is more like it.
IMO, Spinks just about sneaked fight one; as for fight two, well I am a big Spinks fan, but I cannot defend the indefensible, I will keep a diplomatic silence. 
I did see the fight and though Spinks won fair and square…he was busier and a lhw/cw to boot… the fight was supposed to be a walkover for Holmes because he wanted Holmes to get Marciano’s record…and it showed in Holmes…he looked out of shape…
I thought the first was a draw, so it could have gone either way…but I thought Holmes definately won the rematch
