Being a Vegas Virgin™, I was wondering how far a drive that glass skywalk thing over the Canyon is, as we’re hiring a car from the 9th onwards…Also, what are they like with speeding on the interstate, I’ve been told its a measly 55mph limit over there… thanks
Rough guess - about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Only ever done Grand Canyon by helicopter - which I can thoroughly recommend. Bear in mind to the Yanks, 2 1/2 to 3 hours is a walk in the park. They do it for an evening out!
Thay all go from Vegas Airport - done it twice with Sundance Helicopters, who I’ve found excellent. I would advise booking in advance and have used Looktours.com who are very good. Both times done the hotel stretch limo pick-up and had the trip which lands in the Grand Canyon, where you are served a champagne brunch (packed meal). Absolute quality and a trip you’ll NEVER forget. Bit pricey on top of fight tickets (that’s a laugh?) etc. but well, well worth it in my opinion.
i cant help thinkin that the money i’ve saved on fight tickets could at least be spent on somethin worthwhile like this..know what i mean? i’ll look into that, cheers bonters!
I did the canyon by helicopter last year. I think it was approx $420 each. That included pick up from MGM, then from the airport we flew over hoover dam and lake mead. then landed in the canyon and had champagne and pastries etc, then stopped half way back to refuel, then finally flew down the strip back to the airport.
It was expensive but well worth it. Wont be doing again this time round though.
I went to the Sky Walk (west rim) when out for the Castillo fight. I went on an organised coach tour as I couldn’t be bothered to drive and it took about 4 hours which included a quick stop at the Hover Dam and some red neck town in Arizona. I suspect with no stops it would take 3 hours.
It was an interesting place to visit but if you are hiring a car and driving and want to see the Canyon it may be worth taking a 4 and ahalf hour drive and go to the South rim which has some more viewing areas of the canyon, I was there just last week and it was a totally different experience. The south rim also has some hotels, gift shop and a bar.
am doing the Grand Canyon west rim helicopter flight where it lands 2000 ft down on the canyon floor and at the west rim where you can walk on the sky glass walk which i think is going to be awesome but its going to be much better on the canyon floor when i propose to my darling girlfriend of 7 years, been together all through school and now got our own place ;D
i think this would be the perfect place and time to do it and now after she got me 2 tickets for the fight its the least she deserves. so fingers crossed guys she doesnt say no :-\
were also booked for the night flight over las vegas and the helicopter flight and tour round the hoover dam, this is going to be the best holiday of my life so far and want to make it special for her and go and see everything. better hope the credit cards are staying at home before she gets her hands on them out there ha ha what are the shops in Vegas like?
Shopping is excellent. i always give the Visa a good rally in Vegas.
The Great exchange rate means you can save loads especially on designer goods, especially when the sales are on. i went a bit crazy in Prada in June, but hell you only live once :-*
the shopping is crazzzzyyyyyy! i wished i couldve fitted more things in my case in june! deffo going light this time to bring back some bargains! also can do all the crimbo shopping for half price over there!
I’m not surprised, if the speed limit really is 55…
Anyone know how hot they are with speeding etc? I’ve seen Smokey & The Bandit AND Cannonball Run, but I could do with going on something a bit more substantial.
Helicoper trips with Sundance (not sure on the name) are great and not that pricey. If you are going to spend a night at the Canyon (its a long round trip otherwise) you usually need to book in advance through the national park website. I stayed on the rim overnight and did 1 day hike into the canyon last time I was there and it was definitely worth the time.
