There has been a lot of talk about the [color=red][color=blue]G-Man[/color] on this forum , especially recently, with people discussing how great he was or could have been.
So:
Gerald McClellan was a special fighter from the very beginning. He was tall, rangy and could box - as well as possessing shattering power in both hands. He was almost the perfect fighter and it is a shame that the Nigel Benn fight (during which the ref was biased and allowed Benn to foul constantly) robbed us from seeing him cement his legend among the all time great fighters of any era.
Gerald McClellan was an overhyped robot of a fighter. He had good power, but his biggest win was against china-chinned creaking old Julian Jackson. Stylistically, he sacrificed any skill with his obsession for power. he bowled over a stream of non-entitities because he was essentially an ungrateful bully and came badly unstuck against the first real fighter he faced. had he survived as a fighter against benn, his bubble would have been burst and he would be regarded as strictly second rate by now anyway.
I think the G man was a special fighter he could have ruled the Supermiddles had that not happened to him i dont know if he would have beaten Benn that night though a fight between the G man and Jones junior would have been awesome i would have picked Gerald by ko late its a crying shame what happend but this is a dangerous sport .

No one wants to take a beating like that(unless you’re Gatti). Nigel was a great fighter but was allowed to foul in this bout. Had he had the ability to contiue on I strongly believe that he would have been(already is in my eyes) one of the greats.
He had a style that I enjoyed to watch.
On a side note there was a good article in Ring Magazine talking about the two men meeting again years after the fight. Benn put together a charity to raise money for his healthcare…

In the ring Gerald McClellan could be likened to a machine, systematically destroying his opponents with those lacerating straight punches.
On the other hand one could argue G-man was nothing like a machine, he was more animalistic, as he was driven by raw, visceral emotion. He hated the man in the opposite corner and would not be discouraged from claiming his scalp.
I believe this sentiment was felt by Gerald in light of his entire career, I think he felt, to stop him winning and stop him becoming an all time great, someone would have to leave him blind, deaf and paralysed.
G-Man once told Manny that when he looked over at his opponent in the corner, all he saw was his father. And by the way he ran out of his corner and starting braking everything in his path, I would tend to believe that.

I’m calling major BULLSHITSKY on that statement… Yea he earned a TKO in the 1st round had a REF against him that kept him sepearated from BENN , long enough for Benn to recover, got repeatedly fouled, put Benn on his azz again in the 8th round and was ahead on 2 of the judges scorecard when the massive head trauma overtook his conciousness… UNSTUCK?? HARDLY ::**
Big whoop… I dont give a crap about that, what I was eluding to was the ref kept McClellan seperated from Benn for no reason afterward… Even the announcers were yelling “WHAT IS THAT REF DOING” HOME FUKIN COOKING!!! Bottom line
