I know, dating back from the Oscar de-LaHoya fight, Floyd has only been hit cleanly two times.
The first was the infamous Shane Mosely fight, where he was rocked in the second and took some time to recover. Even at that age Shane still had pop and if it were most other Welters or Jr. Welters and even Super Welters, they would have unravelled and gave up the spirit to fight shortly thereafter.
The second time was in the Maidana 2 fight where he lost a tooth after being popped flush in the mouth. He wobbled back to the corner, as the shot came right at the end of the round. Had there been a minute left in that round, I’m not sure what would have happened, but it would have been interesting to see.
Enter in Manny Pacqiuoa- who will CERTAINLY hit Mayweather more times than he has been hit in his last ten fights combined. Probably harder than Shane can at that age, and definitely not as hard as Maidana, but certainly more frequently with a little less pop.
This is fight will be more than a testament of Floyd’s defensive skills, but it will also test Floyd over the long haul of being hit so, so many times.
Bad title for that video, Bradley didn’t win but he did clearly give Manny a lot of problems, and think about how easily other guys have been able to catch him. He’s not a great defensive fighter or counter puncher, fighting him and fighting Floyd are worlds apart.
Yeah I don’t think Bradley won the fight, but the fight was a lot more competitive than people think because the announcers were giving credit to Pac for landing shots that were caught or flew over Bradley’s head.
Different make up and fighter from Tim but Algieri appeared to have come with movement and preservation on the mind. Seems Manny landed a few times there. In fairness Manny clearly beat Bradley not once, but twice. I don’t think he can match Floyds hand speed regardless of what Cotto says, but I think Pacs accuracy will cause him more than a few problems.
Floyd has been hit loads of times, Cotto bloodied his nose but Floyd has probably been hurt twice in 10 fights and I am not included maidana biting his pinky through the glove.
I don’t agree with the guy’s conclusion (that Bradley won the fight), but he does have a point in that announcers can often influence and skew the opinions of those watching a fight . That’s something Lampley is known to do - he’s done it a lot with De La Hoya and he’s done it a lot with Pac.
Just wanted to show that Pac did indeed have a lot of trouble hitting Bradley flush.
If you remember the Cotto/Mayweather fight, the shots Cotto landed were not effectively clean punches. They were grazing punches as either Floyd got out of the way, slipped a few of them or just did not land flush enough.
If Cotto had caught Floyd cleanly with at least two of those punches within the same round, we would have been having a separate discussion.
There is a difference between hitting someone and then decking them clean as a whistle.
Flush, clean shots… no. Floyd got tagged a lot (a lot more than he was used to). But he was either moving away, or in the process of slipping most of those. You’re right. However, he did get tagged enough to get marked up, which Floyd hardly ever looks like he’s been in a fight. This is a testament to Floyd’s remarkable ability to use his body and moves to lessen the impact of punches. Cotto was aggressive and pressing Floyd into the ropes… but Floyd used his shoulder rolls and other moves to lessen a lot of those blows. Still… I think it’s inaccurate to categorize these as grazing punches.
If what you mean are clean, flush shots taken with full force… the one that stands out most in my mind was the shot from Mosley in the 2nd round of their fight.
The two flushest shots ever landed on Mayweather were the two Mosley landed on him in round 2. I don’t know what happened with the first one, because he barely moved and got hit right on the chin without rolling or moving away.
There is absolutely no doubt Pacquiao won that fight but the scorecards are less of an embarrassment than how HBOs crew push their agenda no matter what is actually happening. Watching that fight it’s embarrassing for Max, embarrassing for Lederman(no surprise) and Lampley is simply pathetic(no surprise)
Yeah it’s sad because I’m a big fan of Lederman, who usually is very insightful and produces great score cards. But Lampley is a notorious nut hugger, he did that same shit with De La Hoya all the time, especially in the Whitaker fight. At one point DLH threw a 5 or 6 punch combination, missed every fucking punch, DLH even laughed out of embarrassment, and Lampley is screaming like DLH just knocked Pernell out.
It’s funny that there are still people who think Floyd doesn’t have a chin, or doesn’t have heart. Shane hit him about as flush and as hard as you can hit a man, rocked him and had him doing the fish dance for a few seconds, and Floyd didn’t bat an eye and took control.
