De La Hoya Still Gives Mayweather The Edge on Pacquiao - Boxing News
De la Hoya thinks Mayweather would still beat Pacquiao which is fair enough IMO, I think he would. The interesting thing about this article is the bottom when De La Hoya is talking about the fights he had with both Mayweather and Pacquiao and how he thought in his prime he would have beaten them both. How do you think a prime De la Hoya would do against these two??
Floyd is a bellend and thats why most of us hate him , however its clear he is a great great fighter , and one of the very best of all time.
Wow Oscar…really going out on a limb with that pick. As far as prime Oscar vs. Floyd/Pac. I think he would still have lost to Floyd and I give a slight edge over Pac. Oscar was a great fighter but Floyd is just too slick. I have to say though…Oscar had a great jab. He actually used it effectively against Floyd for part of their fight. Against Pac it would be interesting. Pac is hittable and Oscar had great skill and that powerful hook. It would be interesting to see if his always questioned stamina would hold up against Pac’s continous pressure.

A prime Oscar over Floyd, possibly but I think he still would have choked. A prime Oscar over Pacquiao is another possibility however most thought pacquiao couldn’t handle the punch of a legitimate 147 lb fighter.
Floyd would have made Oscar look like an amateur at the very beginning 130lbs. Floyd overwhelmed everyone and Oscar wouldn’t be able to handle Floyd’s power at that weight or at 135 so my comparison ends there.
Including Freddy Roach, why do you think he was so selective over who he’d let pac actually fight at 147 and not a catchweight?

He hadnt foight at that weight for 7 years and had fought up at middle and even then Manny needed him to come in well below the limit, at 145lb! He was a totally weight drained fighter!
I have no doubt that the fighter who fought Trinidad, Quartey and Mosely would be far too much for Pacquiao.

As far as the question goes I think prime Floyd beats prime Oscar. Prime Oscar against prime Manny I would have liked to see. Manny in his prime with his late career skills would have won I think.

I think Oscar is over-rating himself there. Mayweather would have beaten Oscar at any stage in his career. Oscar was beaten by Trinidad in his prime and Pernell Whittaker (I know he got the decision but Whittaker was robbed IMO)

While I agree Oscar would have lost to Floyd at any stage of his career…I think it would have been a very competitive fight. He didn’t exactly embarrass himself when they fought…and he was no longer at his prime then. Delahoya had a great jab and it was effective against Floyd when he used it in that fight. Again, not saying Oscar would win…but i think it would have been a good fight in their primes.

I do agree with this. A prime Oscar is probably a better opponent than anyone Floyd actually faced. (Though I would still pick Floyd to win it.)
These would be good fights, I think peak Oscar that fought Vargas may have beaten Floyd and Manny at 154lb. At welterweight I think a peak Manny (v which was against weight drained Oscar) and peak Floyd (v Shane) may have beaten Oscar and at the lower weights.

OK now your sound more like a hater. Pacquiao fought many legit 147lb fighters and proved he could handle the punch of bigger weight class. The question is hypothetical, not actual, so when attempting to make a point put some thought into it rather than a knee jerk reaction about your feelings.
No doubt a prime Oscar could have put some hurt on Pacquiao. I think it comes down to, could a prime Oscar have caught Pacquiao? I don’t know, but after seeing Pacquiao’s subsequent fights, I doubt Oscar would have enough solid connects to take out Pacquiao or win on points. thus a prime Oscar beating Pacquiao is doubtful.

These are the facts… Oscar hadnt fought at 147 for 7 years! He had to make 145 which he would have struggled to do and be effective when he was fighting at 147. He had to be put on a drip after the weighin as he was so dehydrated. Even Cotto was made to struggle with weight. Pacquiao isnt that good. Hes been beaten twice now by someone who Floyd made look like a little boy. Floyd had the balls to go up to light middle and fight Oscar where he was strong.
