03.05.06 - Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion Danny Williams will prepare for his rematch with Matt Skelton by training with cage fighters. Williams won the first encounter by split decision in February which was a brutal and bloody contest that saw him roughed up and headbutted by Skelton - a former K1 champion. The Brixton puncher has a warm-up fight on Thursday 1 June at the Barnsley Metrodome* before he goes on to tackle Skelton again as chief support to Joe Calzaghe on the big Millennium Stadium show on Saturday 8 July.
“I’m going to be fully prepared this time for all of Skelton’s dirty tricks,” said Williams who ended the comeback of Mike Tyson and the hype over Audley Harrison.
“I believe that the referee did not do his job properly last time so this time I will prepare myself better by bringing in some cage fighting guys to spar with,”
He added, “Skelton fouled me in every round and my trainer Jim McDonnell counted at least 21 illegal moves when he watched the video of the fight again,”
“If it wasn’t a headbutt, hitting low or leaning on top of me over the ropes, he was throwing the right hand and following through with the elbow - a typical K1 move,”
“We’ve got the perfect guy to come in and train with me, he’s a cage fighting champion with unorthodox moves, so this time I will be ready for anything that Skelton brings.”
*Williams features as chief support to Mark Hobson at the Barnsley Metrodome who headlines the show with a defence of his British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight title.
He might be, And the guy has gallons of guts. But I just don’t like what he said about the heavyweight division. I just post crap most of the time. Cool click for ya Bull
I missed the 1st Williams-Skelton fight. What is Skelton, a modern day Tony Galento? How about Tom Sharkey? Anyway, training with a K-1 guy is a good idea, but the same old story can be seen here: good referees are few and far between and their importance in boxing is underrated. If Skelton did all those things that Williams said he should have had several points taken away, and then disqualified if he repeated the same fouls afterwards 2 or 3 times. Without good referees, boxing can degenerate into a fouling contest in which everybody loses, the fighters, the fans and boxing.
I dont Like Danny Williams that much to be honest, he talks to much crap, his lates press confrence he say he will train harder than ever etc etc, he also said he didnt prepare properly for Skelton last time???
This guy is unreal he said the exact same after the Audrey fight and prior to the Skelton fight he says he trained harder than ever gave up the cakes etc etc, the guy is no more than domestic level and i would put big money on any heavyweight champ beating him easily including Valuev.
for the fight with audley he had no trainer and trained himself, he poped his ankle in the 4rh round of that fight which ment he had only 5,6 weeks to train for skelton.
danny is one of the nices’t fighters in britan, thats widely known in british boxing but like most fighters he says things after taking heavy criticicem. i didn’t like whatt he said about the heavy division but he’s still a nice guy and i wish him well
he’s much better a person in the way he holds himself towards boxing then audley, when you compare them danny is way better a guy
skelton won that last fight, williams is a prick, i dont box anymore and even I go to the gym 5x a week and keep in great shape, he gets paid for it and comes in the ring a fat embarrasment, he aint got no spirit, skelton will rip him up nect time, thats if williams dont bottle it again like the first time…gayboy
The people who say that Skelton won it base it off the fact that he ‘did more’ did more what? You have to box to win… Head butting a lot, throwing people to the floor and pushing them through the ropes and throwing alot of punches at some ones gloves/thin air is not boxing… ::**
he hit him with a shot that rocked him in the last round and thats all you rated it off? Thats almost as bad as picking a guy because his nose isnt bleeding and the other guy’s was… instead of looking for bullying and people looking hurt look for effective punching and defence.
The only time Skelton was really managing to hit Williams was one he leaned on him with his forehead in his face. For most of the fight he was out jabbed except for one of the mid rounds.
i think u watched a different fight, i grew up idolising bomber graham, a man who knew how to jab and move, so I reckon I’m not someone who picks a winner just for goin forwards, but Williams hardly used his jab, when he did it didn’t land or didn’t land cleanly…and all this bullshit from not only you but many other so called boxing fans who have complained about skeltons apparent illegal use of the head…you cant have watched much actionover the years cos ive seen much worse in the ring…this is a mans game, sometimes the heads get in the way, its the nature of the game…there are definately too many Danny Williams rentboyz around in this country…dont get sucked in by him..he’s crap, has no heart and talks shit…I wish I was bigger and I 'd go and kick his ass..I’m surpised he aint got Labia on his head he’s such a pussy
