Can the Gentleman slay the Dragon?

I voted Calzaghe by decision because (of late) I’ve been really impressed by Johnson’s determination & output & I think that he’ll gut it out heart & soul to the finish…I just don’t think that it’d be enough.

This is sad for me. I can’t pick against Calzaghe…and I predict that he is about to take out another one of my favorite fighters. I just think that Calzaghe, is to fast and to sharp for Johnson right now. Johnson is a straight ahead fighter and Calzaghe fairs well against straight ahead fighters. Maybe Johnson can win though. Maybe the 7 lb jump will affect Calzaghe (like it did his English counterpart, Hatton) and I think Johnson will do better against Calzaghe since Johnson has been in a big fight against a huge name 4 or 5 times before as opposed to Lacy being in his first big fight when he fought Calzaghe.

I’m rootin for Johnson, I just don’t think he has the tools at this point of his career to get the job done.

And no way in hell Calzaghe jumps 7 pounds and knocks out iron chinned Johnson. No way. I would take that to the bank.

Is this fight at 168 or 175? boxrec is showing the WBO and IBF SMW belts on the line. IF that is right Calzaghe by UD. If it is at 175 still Calzaghe but by a closer margin. Either weight Joe outboxes Johnson.

Agreed. Joe’s gonna be waaaaaaay to fast for Glen. Way too fast. I personally see this as a stepping stone to Jones jr or Tarver…provided that both of those two win their next fights.

Imagine if Jones make some impressive comeback by KOing Prince Baldi & then taking on Calzaghe & defeating him…I would never wish that to happen…but stranger things have come to pass. ;D

Again…agreed.

I wouldn’t say that Johnson is past it…because he has proven time & time again…that he’s gotten old…but Calzaghe is a much better fighter defensively & tactically.

The last that I read it was at a catch weight.

That’s a good question TB.

One that I can’t answer right now…I was hoping that it was at 175.

I think Jones hits harder and has faster hands then Calzaghe

Maybe in the late 90’s & the early 2’s…but not anymore babe…not anymore.

Isn’t that ironic… That Glen Johnson is a stepping stone to those men… At least Jones Jr… He Koed him and won every round on the way to it… This should be seen as a tough challenge for Calzaghe and Im glad he’s taking it.. I think this is the hardest opponent out there that Calzaghe will face, because Hopkins is retiring after he beats Tarver and noone will want to see him against Calzaghe then.

so you’re telling me Calzaghe is faster and hits harder then Jones hit Johnson in their fight?

I voted calzaghe and i think he will win assuming that his hand does not give out

Yes. Calzaghe will be faster than Jones was against Glen Johnson…hands down.

Now…if your’e trying to be crafty & get me…like I know you are…then NO…Calzaghe will not be as fast as Jones was against the other two Johnsons that he beat…now…go try & milk somebody else SSSP. :-*

Reggie Johnson & Stephan Johnson that is. :bananasex:

Calzaghe peaked with the Lacy win. No where else to go but down. And down he will in the Johnson fight. Calzaghe hit Lacy at will and couldn’t drop him until the end. When Lacy was dead tired. His punches will have no affect on the heavier, rock jawed Johnson.

Totally disagree.

Everyone forgets that Calzaghe’s got a boatload of knocked out gents on his record & Lacy’s got a hell of a beard also.

His punches will have an effect babe.

One thing not to forget is Calzaghes hands though…THey can always be a problem, it’s a small intangible with him. if he hurts it at all before or during the fight then he will be in really tough against Glen, and that will definetly have an effect.

violent demise i don’t know how you know that Calzaghe has peaked yet. How come he can’t carry on getting better. I think Calzaghe is an awesome fighter but it is impossible to say he has peaked unless it is said retrospectively (as in years retrospectively),…unless yiu truly believe that JC is the epitome of boxing prowess

The guys 33 years old, he is what he is. He won’t improve anymore. The Lacy win was the peak win of his career. His downfall begins.

Now what timezone you live in that you have this historical perspective and know that March 4 2006 was the top of the hill for Joe and he started sliding down from that zenith right away? How you know it isn’t a plateau that leaves him at a high altitude for a year or two or three? You been time travelling? what if he pulls a Hopkins?

Or do you know something we don’t?

Me, I’m stuck travelling at the speed of time (tick-tock) … so I appreciate your perspective. Hey … you ever run into Dr Who?
