Amir to fight for title

Frank Warren says he is confident that Amir Khan will fight for a title before the end of the year.

The 19-year-old is currently 6-0, with scheduled fights in Belfast on May 20 and Cardiff on July 8.

“We have to see what opportunities are out there for him, but hopefully by the end of the year he will be fighting for a title of some sort,” said Warren.

Khan, who tackles former European title challenger Laszlo Komjathi on May 20 at the Kings Hall, added that he had been inspired by Joe Calzaghe’s win over Jeff Lacy on March 4.

“The odds were in Lacy’s favour and for Joe to win by miles was brilliant,” said Khan, who was in Manchester to see Calzaghe’s triumph.

"To see that fight, especially watching it over again and eeing how many punches he threw, was great.

“I’ve got a high work rate and I know how difficult it can be too keep it up.”

Wow… the key word would be a title of some sort, maybe the WBF IBC or some horsecrap, I dont even think you can fight for the british title until you are 21, and he would be a complete fool to challenge for a signifigant title this early in his career. How would he be inspried by the Calzaghe performance either, that doesn’t really make any sense to me especially when you consider how many pro fights Calzaghe had before that one.. A bright note for this is that everyone is moving up to welter seemingly, so 140 can be taken over in years to come but he definetly shouldnt fight the best guys anytime soon when he hasn’t been taken to the championship rounds and tested in some facets…

I’m being extremely optimistic, but how good would anAmir Khan vs John Murray fight be for the WBC youth belt!
