Doesn’t that seem odd to any of you here? Like, why is Canelo still fighting? He does not need the money. His legacy is where it is- a slightly above mid-level fighter. He does not need to fight anymore. There is nothing else he needs to prove or anything else we need to see from him? Unless Canelo is a fuck up with his money like Mayweather was/is, he should not be fighting. He has made his millions.

I sincerely doubt Canelo is a “fukk up” with his money on the scale Floyd is. Nobody can be THAT stupid. I’m pretty sure Canelo has invested well.
As to why he’s still fighting? First of all, and putting my intense dislike of Canelo aside, all these great fighters that have gotten used to the adulation and headlines… all of them… have a hard time letting go. Once you’ve been (ahem)… “The Face of Boxing”… warranted or not… it’s tough to give that up. So in that regard Canelo is no different from any other great fighter whose time is almost up.
Now I’m putting my Canelo hater hat back on. Canelo’s last fight was an embarrassing schooling by a fighter who, for all intents and purposes, came from THREE divisions down to kick his ass. That isn’t exactly the memory that a guy who’s ALL about his legacy wants to leave behind. It’s a bad taste in his mouth. First… he’s fully aware that most people feel he ducked Benavidez for YEARS like the devil ducks the cross. Then… he gets smoked by Crawford. Not exactly the ride off into the sunset Canelo was seeking.
To me… THAT’S why he keeps fighting, although he doesn’t need the money.
Canelo has a fat lucrative contract signed with Turki which he needs to honour. Everyone wants to maintain their lifestyle and this is what he will be doing for the next 4 generations of his family.
