When i go boxing, i spar most weeks because that is how our trainer likes to train us, i weight 67 now, trying to get down to 63, because of this i have to spar agianst people around 60ish and up, sometimes heavier but mainly they are very fast. I can be fast but i have good power shots. I am generally a all round fighter, but against these really fast people i cannot block lots of their shots, i was wondering if any of you know how to get my reflexes to be better suited, quicker and more natural to boxing. Thanks
very good question ! & difficult to answer lol …try to think if the punches get there b4 u relize …or if you see them coming and freeze or dont seem able to get your shots off till its too late…
maybe try to stay further from the punches …box on the outside and extend your arms alittle bit more than usual and try to counter so u sorta have more tie before the punch gets to you and u can probably counter hit if your arms r long enough and ur in position and it may be easier to time by parrying & getting in and out
or work on the double end bag more to help your head movement (refeer to “double end bag” i actually replied to a question posted today about it
anyway your reflexes should get better and speed can always be honed and your timing is more important than speed cause u can time a fast punch
and if u need ways to actually punch faster there is things like shadow boxing w/ weights and sorta not clenching your fist untill u snap the punch …anyway i hope this helped atleast a little bit ![]()
thanks i will take that all in to account mate, that should help a lot so jsut carry on sparring, think about what im doing and get into it and it should naturally improive?? thanks a lot
Good puch. you’re always faster when you’re relaxed. That applies to everything in like… like why sprinters’ hands are outstretches and face muscles are relaxed or why some baseball players are relaxed until the pitch is thrown.
Reflexes I beleive have very little to do with it. As Ive said before I once trained a boxer , who had the fastest reflexes ever tested in G B. 6,000 of a second, and yet was the slowest in the gym, It was a few years ago, if I knew then what I know now, we would have solved the problem. That was his problem, making problems, called Parrelysis by analysis. The thought of doing it stopped him doing it Its the same a good goal scorer taking a penalty. A big game 8 out of 10 he will miss, he has to much time to think about it, and hes not used to thinking about it. Usualy he just does. The problem here is vision. Your eyesight slows you down, but there are ways round it. Plus the eyes relaying to the brain imformation, which it is not comfortable with. What you should try is shadow boxing with different partners or sparring lightly, get use to it learn to read situations allthe time bcome more aware of movement and the response to it. Finally learn a good stretch routine for the whole body which will prepare the body for movement at speed.
alright, cheers, so what you are all telling me is relax, and concentrate on what you are doing, read the punhces, thanks i will try that next time…
