the wba has now approved errol spence v keith thurman, with the winner to face the winner of eimantas stanionis v vergil ortiz
There is more good news in this but first the bad
Rashidi turned down a Boots fight.
But…
If Ortiz beats Stanionis he becomes Spence’s mandatory and that removes him from the WBO spot. That would move Boots into that spot and Boots definitely wants a piece of Crawford and I would be about as excited to see Boots/Crawford as Spence/Crawford. Hell, I’m excited for Spence/Thurman
Did Boots talk himself out of a fight? Just like that it’s like he’s been passed by and one of the few talking fight dates but basically with “TBA”. Ortiz vs Stanionis to me leapfrogs what both Spence and Crawford have next on their plates. Spence is going to very bad things to Keef while he and Crawford get further apart. But I’m to the point of being fine with that if it means each steers into Boots and Ortiz. 147 should have had its wheels spinning long ago.
I think Boots is in the same place Spence was when Thurman was refusing him. Too good to be worth the hassle. But he’s pushing his current mandatory position which would line him up for Spence if Spence is still around by where it would line up in his mandatory order. And he has been very clear he will push the WBO mandatory if Ortiz moves out of that spot which seems likely.(currently only top ranked, not “mandatoryâ€)

Just not really convinced either Spence or Crawford are in a hurry for it and at the same time their maybe-might-should big fight remains in limbo. Boots just want’s a shot and feels like he doesn’t care who it’s with. But now he’s back to waiting and hopefully gets a decent name if they plan to have him on Tank undercard. He could slot mandatory and sit for close to another year, or maybe we see some belts open up with vacancy. As a fan hey we have a couple solid fights coming, but as a Boots fan more waiting and he really needs a top breakout fight.
i thought austin had just signed with bare knuckle boxing
I hadn’t heard that.
i think bare knuckle boxing is a bad idea for austin, better to try stay active with the gloves on & try get in position for a danny garcia fight, if austin still has ties with pbc
thammanoon niyomtrong & erick rosa have agreed to terms to unify their wba strawweight titles. thammanoon holds the super title & erick holds the secondary
