[/quote]WORD!
we need villans in boxing to make it more fun when the get fucked up but Mayorga takes it too far. Fuck 'im. He done. >:mad
to be fair to mayorga, he runs his mouth and it sets up the fight. gives it an added dimension…after the fight mayorga was nothing less than courteous and he was hugging and talking to oscar with no animosity or negative feeling…
mayorga has got a very decent payday, and its anybodies guess where he goes from here…
I think I’m the only one who saw De La Hoya as the real villain.
He handpicked Mayorga as his comeback fight because a) he knew he would be too skilful for Mayorga and win, and b) he knew Mayorga’s outrageous personality would guarantee huge publicity and big ppv sales, whilst at the same time projecting to the public that Oscar was the real good guy, the golden boy with his squeaky clean image who the fans could get behind and support as he took on boxing’s bad boy.
Then behind the scenes we see the reality that Oscar fleeces Mayorga taking $8 million dollars to Mayorgas $2 million even though he hasn’t fought in two years and Mayorga is defendig champ.
Then we also find out that Mayorga is secretly a real good guy, supplying his old village with electricity and being actively involved in raising living conditions in the slums of Nicaragua.
Now Oscar can bask in the glory, his already perfectly manufactured golden boy image restated and he can go on to make another $20 million dollars or so to spend on more yachts and luxery villa’s when he fights Mayweather in September. :-\
Ha you got me with the second part! My point is though that Oscar is not the squeaky clean perfect human being he is made out to be. He is a ruthless businessman and negotiator.
Mayorga is a brawler and relies on pre-fight intimidation to psyche himself up and also to sell the fight.
Outside the ring he is completely different, as Oscar evidenced when he said Mayorga apologised to him afterwards for all the things he had said.
agreed, bilbo. mayorga is not quite the badman that he builds himself as being when building up a fight…after the fight you always see mayorga as he probably is much of the time. he seems to be especially fond of his mother. he likes the booze and cigs, but most of us do anyway…
