July 11th in Russia the 2 will face one another for the WBA title.

Gassiev is by no means overlooking Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist Yoka.

“I watched the Olympic Games, [when] he won the gold medal,” Gassiev added.

"He is a big fighter with good boxing skills.

"This is a very very hard fight for me. He beat the best fighters in the world as an amateur.

"He is a warrior and he is coming to beat me, so I am ready for this…

“Right now, all I care about is this fight.”

Gassiev was ready and willing to take on Itauma next, the Brit opted to go another route.

“[In February] I said, 'Ok, let’s talk,” Gassiev told talkSPORT.com of his failed negotiations with Itauma’s team.

"Some negotiations, some talks, some promoters, managers, teams, no problem, just give me the location, time, date, and let’s fight.

"But it’s boxing - this is a serious business. Maybe it’s not the perfect time for this fight right now.

"Maybe after we will fight, or maybe next year.

"Moses has a good team, a good promoter, a good manager, and a good coach.

" [I think] his team makes this fight [with Hrgovic] because it is the best for him right now, because he’s young, maybe he doesn’t have the experience.

“Maybe for his career this fight with Hrgovic is perfect.”

Thought we’d see Moses v Gassiev right off for some reason, but this should be a smash job for him at this point. Either way it’s a ‘regular’ wba version so it needs to be sorted out quick. Division feels like it’s still full of guys waiting around for someone else to move.

on the undercard

Glad to see Joe Joyce back but this is a challenge against an unbeaten Russian in Russia. Hope he has something left to pull off this upset.

Britain’s Joe Joyce will return to the ring for the first time in more than a year when he challenges undefeated Russian heavyweight Artem Suslenkov for the WBA Continental title in Moscow on 11 July.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to travel to Russia and challenge for the WBA Continental heavyweight title on July 11,” added Joyce.

“Thank you to IBA Pro for the opportunity. My team and I are locked in and Moscow should get ready for a big performance.”

Suslenkov, 30, comes into the fight with a perfect record from his 14 professional fights, with nine of his victories coming by way of knockout.

The Volgograd-born heavyweight last fought in April when he successfully defended his WBA Continental title against Artur Mann.

The stoppage victory moved Suslenkov into the WBA’s top 10 heavyweight rankings for the first time.

“Joyce is a powerful opponent with strong technique and vast experience. This is a serious challenge,” said Suslenkov. "I feel both excitement and full focus.

“This is a chance to show my level and give the fans something to cheer about.”

Kinda worried about Joyce at this point being honest. He’s sponged a shit ton of damage at 40.

tony yoka is out with an injury

joe joyce is on the card, maybe he can step in

I hope Joyce takes it and wins. It sets up a good rematch against Dubois.

if joe gets offered the fight he probably takes a beating

Sucks for Yoka Gassiev probably gets elevated right off. But in an ideal world why not move Suslenkov in. Already facing Joe and already top 10. But we can’t have two ‘names’ on either end cancel the other out now can we

yeah murat’s already been upgraded. totally agree that artem would be perfect but would make too much sense for today’s boxing

And just like that Joyce likely rocketed straight to the full title shot. Rather than the guy who’s actually ranked in the top 10 on the card. This is the point where everyone parrots the “well it’s as much a business as it is a sport”

I am glad for Joe Joyce. Right place right time. If he is not the same fighter and can not beat Gassiev then he needs to retire anyway.
