Could this be a way to tell if you are hitting harder?

I once heard that if you ball your hand into a fist, and punch the palm of your other hand, that depending on how loud it is, you can tell if you are hitting hard or not. I don’t think this is true. After a workout, I can punch my palm and it will sound loud, but most of the time it won’t sound that loud, whereas all the kids and school can do it and it will sound very loud. Anyonek know anything about this?

No thats not true at all, you need the help of someone who knows what they are doing, get them to take you on the mits, they will be able to tell if your punching power has increased.

Man this has to be the biggest load of crap ive ever heard. I always tell by punching the heavy bag.

that’s a load of shit m8   the only reason a punch will sound load is because air is getting trapped in your hand, so it only depends on the shape of the hand that you’re punching

PS.

you probably have a much harder punch than your mates

Using the heavybag has its flaws, for one you really want to be hitting harder so you can fool yourself into thinking you are, also how do you assess it? how far the bag swings? the sound it makes?

The only way (unless your an active fighter who starts knocking people out but previously couldnt) is to get someone else involved and have then assess you over a period of time doing the same drill.

Every one of us is guilty of overpraising our work, without the help of a third party there is always the risk of thinking “Ive been at it a while now, I must be getting better\stronger\faster etc etc”

if you pratice you can only get better (that’s probably a load of shit)

unless you are getting old or summit like that

Well yeah i have gotten my dad to do that and he said that my power has improved a lot and apparently i have one hell of a right rip ;D . My trainer isnt training anymore so i cant get trained anymore :frowning:

I figured it was, but I was just making sure. But you can’t always tell by hitting the punching bag, either. I’ve noticed when I hit the bag, the dents on impact have gotten a bit bigger. Also, when I hit it really hard, the bag shakes from up to down.

how heavy is your bag???

Your bag will get softer over time so dont take that as gospel, getting someone to hold the bag for you over a period of time would be more accurate IMO.

you know on rocky 4, when ivan drago punches that pad thing and it tells him how hard it was, do any gyms have them because i have never seen them???

Something like it has been used before, I believe Frank Bruno was tops, I would imagine its all very nice to know that you hit with alot of poundage, but it doesnt really carry into a fight situation.

true true

120lbs. It’s also a water bag.

They’re probably expensive as hell.

yeah, i imagine so >:(

I just figured in sparring and your sparring partner says “Hey you hit hard” then I was hitting hard. Either that or seeing the way people react to being hit by you

i don’t agree with that, nearly anyone can hit hard but when you’ve got someone pounding you in the face it’s not so easy :boxing:

Dont agree with what exactly?

doesn’t matter, i think that i missread lyle’s post, sorry about that

but i don’t think that knowing you have a hard punch really helps you in a fight, it can get your confidence up but it can also make you too cocky, which i really don’t like
