WBC lightweight champion Diego Corrales and his promoter Gary Shaw have taken legal action against Jose Luis Castillo and Castillo’s promoter Top Rank. Corrales is seeking $1.2 million (the purse he would have made against Castillo, had Castillo made weight in their aborted third fight on June 3), plus $10 million in punitive damages. Shaw, who was the co-promoter of the cancelled fight, is seeking $750,000 in damages and $10 million in punitive damages.
that’s sounds about right…Castillo has screwed him twice..and all that training for nothing..the buildup…his time…everyone knows that with boxing you only have so much time to make what you can and get out…who knows how much Castillo cost chico in future fights???..but this should send a message to anyone else that waits til its too late to call off a fight…had he done it weeks earlier Chico might have been able to find another quality opponent…
Training camps are month’s long, Corrales lost time, energy, blood and guts, and most importantly a long stint without sex. Trainers don’t allow any sex for their boxers through camp. Castillo deserves to get sued.
Can’t speak for every single fighter but as far as myself and the boxers in my gym that is true.
ohhhh…that sucks balls man…well not in your camp..lol must want you guys to be meaner than a rabid JYD…or really frustrated…
I agree with Chico’s pursuit of the money. I think that the case probably isn’t that strong though. If he won then it would change boxing forever because now fighters would have to make sure that they came in at weight or else they could be sued. I don’t think he’ll win though.
No problem, Castillo just needs to start a back-to-back lawsuit against McDonalds or KFC. Then he needs to sue his trainers. Then his trainers need to sue him. Then everyone needs to sue Corrales for putting Castillo under so much tension he was eating to compensate for stress.
As usual, the only ones who will ever see any money will be scumbag lawyers.

but really like some bigshot once said, “one man’s meat, another’s poison is”. ;D
yeah…I thought that was old school…like the world was flat…or Brad and Jen are goin to be together forever type of stuff…
how do Top Rank and the WBC fit into this lawsuit? what about Bob Arum? the montly weigh-in check up thing with the council and the week bfor the fight weight check? there is no way Castillo can pay 22 mil to Chico and Shaw, his biggest pay day was like 900 thou. The purse of 1.2 mil should be paid to Chico straight up. Only someone like the Golden BOy can pay that kind of dough, Castillo just has some money investment in mariscos (seafood) restaurants in Mexicali and he is just starting to promote fights down there.
