Gomez v McDonagh

Speaking to Kerry today he said pretty much the same thing. Gomez basically decided he just couldnt be arsed anymore. He felt that although he was winning the fight easily, he should have taken him out within 3 rounds, and because he didnt. he basically thought, fuckk it, I’m not the fighter I was and just retired there and then.

Micheal knew although he was in physical shape, his heart and mind wasnt into boxing anymore, after 11 years and a career thats had its highs and notoriously self-inflicted lows, he’d had enough. It was a mini breakdown in the ring.

Billy is happy that Micheal has finally admitted that his heart isnt in it, I’m sure Billy knew this all along, and now Micheal does himself.

Shame really, Micheal had all the talent in the world but lacked the required discipline at times, and that was always his undoing. :-\

Ricky once said to me the only guy he would have hated to have fought as a schoolboy amateur was Gomez, he said that Gomez would have beaten him. :o

Micheal also said that he felt that he left something in the ring when he fought Arthur, that fight took something from him, and he’s never been quite the same since.

I seems a fitting tim e for me to break my silence on Micheal Gomez

Firstly, nice of Gomez to mention Arthur in a respectful manner, Also as a Scot and a AAA fan. I somehow respect Gomez more for saying it.

Looking at his carear in a non bias view point, I think he has a lot to be proud about, for a few years when ricky was still coming up Gomez was the only thing in Britian worth watching, also he was British’ European and world champ not many people can say that, and finally he gave us up here the most memorable fight on Scottish soil in the last 10 years.

Unfortunantley i’m not sure i would have meant it if he were still boxing, but best of luck to him I say :appl:
