Holding and hitting is technically illegal but in the pro game it is usually permitted as long as it isn’t holding the back of the head. Most referees (the best ones) want the fighters to fight their way out of clinches instead of just holding on until they are separated.

Not exactly what Im saying. Ive never seen a fighter hold and hit as much as Hatton, Ive seen fighters do it, but not every time out, its like its part of rick’s repertoire.

I have to assume that you’ve only seen Ricky Hatton fight Kostya Tszyu, Carlos Maussa and Louis Collazzo. No doubt he’s been quite grabby in his last 3 fights and that issue has been discussed at some length on this forum. Many around here are quite candid when discussing Rick getting away from his boxing skills lately.

Hatton, however, has displayed fantastic boxing skills in the past. His fights against Tackie, Phillips, Oliviera, and Stewart were high water marks in his display of skill. Just about everyone around here who calls themselves fans of Rick are calling for a return to old form.

He instituted a strategy for taking down Tszyu and has apparently gotten himself into a bit of a rut. No one here has denied it.

Actually Ive seen rick fight quite a few times, out of the fighters you just named, I wonder why u didnt mention the Eamonn Mcgee fight in which rick was floored.

The Magee fight was absolutley worth mentioning but I wasn’t going to list all 40 opponents. I just listed the 4 prior to Tszyu because it happened to be the high water mark of his boxing skills. The Magee fight was a fine display of boxing as well which saw Rick get off the canvas and virtually shut out a quality opponent.

But I’m sure that’s what you saw in that fight as well.
